Driving A NASCAR Racecar Across The Michigan Mackinac Bridge
Brad Keselowski bridged two distinct facets of his life Wednesday by using, appropriately, a bridge.
The defending NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion took his No. 2 Ford into Michigan, his home state, and drove the Blue Deuce across the iconic Mackinac Bridge that connects the state’s upper peninsula and lower peninsula.
The 2012 champion has kept ties to his home state, making several visits and contributing to the local community. Keselowski can often be seen wearing a Michigan cap or winter hat, depending on the season, around the NASCAR garage as well.
The champ was given special permission to traverse the suspension bridge to promote the Quicken Loans 400, the Sprint Cup race scheduled for June 16 at Michigan International Speedway. In honor of the event, the state will change the color of the lights on the Mackinac Bridge to blue, starting May 30 and lasting through the day of the race.
Keselowski’s drive across the Mackinac Bridge was successful, and at the end the driver demonstrated that, underneath the sponsorships and success, he’s still the same blue-collar Michigan man after all these years.
Before wheeling his car to the next event, he even paid the $4 toll to cross the Mackinac Bridge.
