Adkins Raceway Park Opens After 17 Years Closed

Adkins Raceway Park Opened After Karting Track Was Closed For 17 Years

Old Adkins Raceway Park Karting TrackAdkins Raceway Park was built over 50 years ago in Port Washington. It once hosted many national karting events. The track foundation was laid down by the late George Kugler, who was the founder of the World Karting Association. The current track owner is Kyle Adkins, who also owns and operates Adkins Speed Center.

Below is a post about the opening weekend for refurbished facility.

If there ever was a day to be excited, it certainly was May 31, Opening Day at Adkins Raceway Park.

I remember watching the first class pull onto the track and thinking “this is what we have been working for”, and all through the day, as the different classes went onto the track, the feeling of accomplishment stayed with me, Kyle, each Board Member and every person who gave their time, money and materials to see this day finally arrive.

It hasn’t been easy, but it’s been worth it..

But are we done?? 2015 is going to be a “work in progress” year. This is not an apology or an excuse for anything. It is reality that IVKC and ARP are continually working to improve Adkins Raceway Park and the Indian Valley Kart Club. We are Proud of where we have come from and where we are today, but we are not satisfied. So you can expect to see changes as the year goes on.

The first change is the pricing of Pit Passes. IVKC want to be as Family Friendly as possible and we will continue to allow 7 year old and under in Free, unless they are racing. Starting at our June 27-28 race, Pit Passes will cost $10.00, coinciding with most other tracks. If you come to practice on Saturday, the Pit Pass is $10.00 but it will be good for Sunday. Driver fee for Saturday is an additional $5.00 and entry fee for Sunday race will continue to be $25.00 IVKC Members and $35.00 for non-IVKC Members. Unfortunately, we can not allow anyone onto the property without Insurance so we are going to have a “Walk In Pit Pass” that will be available after 1:00 pm on Sunday. We hope this will encourage more people to stop by and watch. We don’t know of any other track that offers this.

Another change is in the “Animal/Clone” Class. We have added 10 lbs to the Animals.

“Kid Karts” Class is now a racing class and will be scored as any other class.

And finally, I want to Thank Rusty Chapman, my oldest son, for working as Head Flagman Opening Day. It looks as if he will be doing the Honors for the remainder of the year.

Watch the web site for more changes and updates through the year..
