Matt Kenseth Meets with Brian France…. Again

Matt Kenseth and Brian France Talk… Again

Matt Kenseth has been called to the principals office again. The meeting was scheduled to discuss the post-suspension comments (see below) made by Kenseth.

As most of you know Matt Kenseth wrecked leader Joey Logano at Martinsville Speedway. As a results the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was banned from the previous two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races.

The actions of Matt Kenseth were all in retaliation. Joey Logano moved Kenseth out of the way to take the lead and the win at Kansas Speedway. That move took Kenseth out of the remaining championship rounds.

With the back story set, it continues…

On SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, France said the move by Joey Logano was “quintessential NASCAR”. Kenseth sarcastically used that phrase in a tweet after Jimmie Johnson’s win at Texas Motor Speedway.

Matt said that after he heard the NASCAR CEO say that he was encouraged. He felt added pressure to ‘even the score’ after hearing those thoughts.

Good work @JimmieJohnson! Textbook pass for the win at the end of the race when someone is trying to take your lane. #quintessential

The twitter comment isn’t what brought Matt Kenseth back to the ‘big red truck’ though it likely didn’t help poking the NASCAR CEO. It was an interview that soon followed with the Associated Press.

Matt Kenseth told the AP he would likely do it again. He said he was forced to take action.

I felt like I was almost encouraged. I felt like the comments almost condoned it, the way Brian France said Joey was smart in the way he strategically eliminated a threat for the title. I just never dreamed, ever, that I’d get suspended for going back and evening the score.

Kenseth further stated that in the future he would be more aggressive. He also said he’d be less tolerant of drivers actions taken toward him. Despite his last bit of aggression landing him a 2 race suspension.

Matt Kenseth returns to the track this weekend. He will enter Homestead-Miami Speedway with the ban lifted. Assuming, he doesn’t get into more trouble.

Dale Jarrett on the Matt Kenseth AP Interview

NBC Sports Analyst and former NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Dale Jarrett spoke on the interview.

I think that you can’t be concerned so much about what others say. I understand that maybe Joey could have handled the situation a little bit better after Kansas but Matt could have handled things a lot better in this interview and the way he is viewing things.

Did I totally agree with the way it was presented by Brian France? I think I know what Brian was trying to say was ‘we appreciate the hard racing’ but for Matt to take that and say he had to do it because of those words. Matt you misunderstood here.

You would have been better off not doing this interview, personally.
