Raphael Matos Suspended For 2 Years From Racing After Failing Drug Test

Former Indycar driver Raphael Matos suspended from racing for 2 years after failing a drug test. The Brazilian Automobile Confederation has handed the ban after his failed drug test in Brazil.

Raphael Matos failed the drug test in October. He is just now seeing the full penalty for the infraction.

The Brazilian Automobile Confederation has not mentioned which substance caused the failed drug test. The have commented on the Raphael Matos ban, stating:

“The Disciplinary Committee of the Superior Court of Sports Justice, in a trial held on 15 December 2015, has levied a two-year suspension against the pilot Raphael Costa Silva Matos, with the loss of points and awards from the round in which he did the drug test.”

Raphael Matos is a former racing champion. He took the Indycar Lights Championship in 2008 driving for AGR-AFS Racing.

In 2009, he completed the entire IndyCar Series season driving for Luczo-Dragon Racing. His best finish was at the Milwaukee Mile oval where he finished 6th. He won Rookie of the Year in the IndyCar Series that year.

In recent years, Raphael Matos has competed in Stock Car Brasil.

Former, Formula Renault 3.5 driver Lucas Foresti also failed the same drug test, in the same weekend. the Foresti trial will not be held until 2016. If found guilty, he will lose his first win.
