Jimmy Elliott Sets Fast Time in 2016 Icebowl Shootout Qualifying

EASTABOGA, AL – Jimmy Elliott of Cleveland, TN out qualified 65 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series competitors to set fast time on Saturday for the 25^th Annual Icebowl at Talladega Short Track. Elliott drove the Elliott’s Tire Center Special around the 1/3-mile clay oval in 14.149 seconds to set fast time in Group 6 and earn the pole position for the first heat race.

The six heat races that were scheduled for Saturday were rained out, and will be added to the Sunday race schedule of B-Main races and the $3,000-to-win main event. The top three finishers in each Heat Race will transfer to the main event in the first 18 starting spots. The winner of the first Heat Race earns the pole position for the main event.

Drivers that finish fourth on back in the six heat races will transfer into one of three B-Main Races. The top two finishers in each B-Main race will transfer into the main event in the 19^ththrough 24^th starting spots.

Ryan King of Seymour, TN was the fast qualifier in Group 4 with a time of 14.413 in the Brian King Roofing Stinger, which earned the 2015 Cruise With The Champions Rookie of the Year and the National Championship Runner-Up the pole position for the second heat race. William Thomas of Phenix City, AL was the fast qualifier in Group 5 with a time of 14.425 seconds to earn the pole for the third heat race.

John Ownbey of Cleveland, TN earned the pole position for the fourth heat race in the Sam’s Restaurant Equipment Special with the fast time in Group 1 with a time of 14.438. Sunoco Young Guns Challenge Series driver, 14-year-old Ahnna Parkhurst of Evans, GA in the K&N Filters Warrior was the fast qualifier in Group 2 with a time of 14.490 and earned the pole for the fifth heat race.

Adam Gauldin of Talladega, AL will start his Adam Gauldin Racing Rocket from the pole position in the sixth heat race after setting fast time in Group 3 with a time around his home track in 14.520 seconds.

The 25^th Annual Icebowl is the first of eight races scheduled for the 2016 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series RockAuto.com Winter Shootout that will carry its own points and point fund prior to the 2016 National Touring season begins in April. Bubba Raceway Park will present three Winter Shootout races on January 28, 29, and 30 to open the Bubba’s Army Winternationals.

Golden Isles Speedway in Brunswick, GA will host a pair of Winter Shootout races on February 5 and 6 as a part of their Super Bowl of Racing. Cochran Motor Speedway in Cochran, GA will present the final two Winter Shootout races for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series on February 26 and 27.
