Chase Elliott Foundation Launched

ELLIOTT AND HENDRICK MOTORSPORTS TEAMMATES WEAR SPECIAL PATIENT-DESIGNED RACING SHOES AT ATLANTA MOTOR SPEEDWAY

ATLANTA, GA. (March 2, 2017) — Chase Elliott officially announced today the launch of the Chase Elliott Foundation with the unveiling of special, children-designed racing shoes that Elliott and his three Hendrick Motorsports teammates will wear during this weekend’s NASCAR races at Atlanta Motor Speedway.  The racing shoes are the result of the “Design 2 Drive 4 Children’s” art design collaboration with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta (Children’s), the largest healthcare provider for children in Georgia.

Patients at Children’s submitted color sketches of racing shoes with a summer camp theme and five drawings were selected to be replicated on Alpinestars racing shoes and worn by the Hendrick teammates at Atlanta.  Each of the five racing shoes are being auctioned off online for ten days beginning today.  Auction proceeds go to benefit the summer camp program that Children’s runs for its large patient network.

“My family and I have been supporters of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for many years, so Children’s is the perfect partner to launch the Chase Elliott Foundation around,” said Elliott, a Dawsonville, Ga. native who won NASCAR Cup Series Rookie of the Year honors last year. “Everyone that sees the racing shoes the patients designed are just amazed at how cool they look.  It’s such an honor to represent all the patients of Children’s in the races this weekend.”

At the special announcement today at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston, a children’s hospital facility in Atlanta, the Chase Elliott Foundation also presented Children’s with a check for $24,000, collected from proceeds of a 24-day holiday online auction program conducted this past December. In doing so, Chase Elliott Foundation Executive Director Cindy Elliott told the crowd of assembled Children’s staff, patients and family of the non-profit organization’s mission to helping others live healthier, happier lives.

“The Elliott family has been bringing smiles to our patient families for many years,” said Beth Buursema, director of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Foundation and External Affairs. “We are honored to partner with Chase Elliott on the launch of his foundation. This generous gift will ensure that our patients get to do what they do best — be kids.”

The winning racing shoe sketches were submitted by five patients at Children’s ranging in age from ten to 12 years old.  The Hendrick drivers picked their favorite sketch, resulting in the following driver-designer pairings:

  • Chase Elliott – Liv Shumbres, age 12
  • Dale Earnhardt Jr. – Bronco Reese, age 11
  • Jimmie Johnson – Carly Diver, age 10
  • Kasey Kahne – Walker Watson, age 11
  • Chase Elliott – Jackson Vicknair, age 12 (for Truck race on March 4)

Each driver will sign their respective racing shoe, which are being auctioned off at the new online auction site of the NASCAR Foundation located aT nascarfoundation.org/auctions.

Several corporate partners are matching the winning bids of the five shoes in the online auction, including NAPA Auto Parts, Mountain Dew, Kelley Blue Book, Hooters, SunEnergy1, SunTrust, and Rocky Ridge Trucks.  In addition, Under Armour is providing artist-painted replica shoes to each of the five designers.
