Mike Marlar Magnolia Motor Speedway Pole Sitter1487

Qualifying
Mike Marlar set quick time in Group A. Marlar circled Magnolia at 13.923 seconds. Scott Bloomquist turned fast time in Group B at 14.188 seconds.

Josh Richards turned the quickest time in hot laps. However, he had a mechanical failure in qualifying. He needed a push off the track. The caution for Richards messed up McCreadie’s hot lap. Then, Tim McCreadie messed up his warm-up lap. He turned it around, backwards, before taking the green. He opted for a second attempt at his warmup lap. It was worth it, his second lap gave him 4th.

Heat 1
Mike Marlar jumps out to the lead in heat 1. No pressure. Timothy Culp is in the wall late. Caution. Marlar will have to hold them off for a G-W-C. He does, the pole sitter takes the first heat win of the night.

Heat 2
Overton took the lead from Jimmy Owens and never looked back. He claims heat number 2.

Heat 3
An early battle between Scott Bloomquist and Gregg Satterlee. Trouble, Bloomquist slows. Mechanical issues for the point leader. Bloomquist has lost drive, while running 2nd. As the race went back green, Satterlee went uncontested to the heat 3 win.

Heat 4
Don O’Neal is the early leader in the 4th and final heat race. Tim McCreadie won’t go away though. O’Neal high, McCreadie against the inside tire barriers. 2 laps to go, McCreadie is around O’Neal on the bottom. O’Neal isn’t done fighting. O’Neal now desires the bottom lane, so does McCreadie. They rub fenders in turn 1 on the final lap, a fight for the bottom. O’Neal is through, rubs his way back to the front. O’Neal drives to the win.

Main Event
Mike Marlar and Gregg Satterlee will lead the field to green in The Clash at the Mag. Following trouble in the heat, Scott Bloomquist will start last.

Green Flag, crazy already. 4 wide into turn 1. Overton comes from row two, he leads off turn two.

Marlar begins to climb back through the field. He’s back to 2nd. Overton and Marlar both run the bottom. Brian Rickman is in the battle too, he runs 3rd. Caution, Boom Briggs has big damage. Lap 4.

Green. Overton leads. It takes him a few laps but Marlar is building momentum. He’s found a groove on the top. He’s chasing down Overton quick. Big run on the outside of turn 2. Overton shuts the door, Marlar dives to the bottom in 3. Slide job, new leader, Mike Marlar. Caution, Jimmy Owens hit a bump, pushed up the track, he’s around at the track entrance gate. Lap 19.

Green. Marlar leads. No pressure from behind. Overton has found the same bumps as Jimmy Owens. He’s running through them. Caution. Trouble for Rickman, he pulls to the pits. Lap 25.

Don O’Neal is around Overton on the restart. He got it done on the bottom lane. O’Neal sets the scope on Marlar. Caution. Lap 26. Bloomquist runs 16th.

Green. O’Neal is looking for the lead. He continues to run the bottom. He’s got a nose on Marlar in the middle of 3-4. Marlar powers back to the lead on exit. Overton sweeps around O’Neal. The #5 must have spun his tires as he tried to take the lead. Trouble for the outside pole sitter. Satterlee is slow on track, caution. He hits the pits, returns to the race. Lap 30.

McCreadie is in trouble. He’s got a broken left front. He remains on track but he’ll be a lap down in no time. Marlar checks out on the field. Lanigan is around O’Neal, move the #14 to 3rd. McCreadie goes a lap down. Caution. Bloomquist to the pits and back out. Lap 38.

Marlar checks out again. However, Overton finds a sudden burst of speed with just 8 laps to go. He pulls even down the back-straight. Marlar holds him off in 3-4, Overton loses a ton of ground.

Caution. Just 3 laps remain. Overton is going to get another shot. He’s got nothing for the leader. In fact, Overton is getting swallowed by the field. Marlar is gone.
