Matt Kenseth says he will not be at Joe Gibbs Racing in 2018

Where’s Matt Kenseth in 2018?

Well, it won’t be at Joe Gibbs Racing. At least Matt Kenseth doesn’t think so.

Stating, “I do not think I will have the option to race for JGR next year, unfortunately,”

In fact he doesn’t know where he will be. Another veteran driver without a contract, “I don’t have a job for next year. I certainly hope to still be racing. I still got some wins left in me. We can race for championships.”

Matt Kenseth is focused on 2017, “But right now my focus is finishing up this year.”

In 2017, Matt Kenseth has three top 5’s in seventeen starts. Additionally, he has six total runs inside the top 10. However, you’ll notice no mention of a win in 2017.

Kenseth isn’t pleased with those numbers, “It has not been a good year, at all. You know, not nearly up to my standards or my teams standards.”

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver concluded, “I’m really trying to get back to victory lane. Hopefully we can qualify for the playoffs here and have a shot at the championship.”

Matt Kenseth has spent the last 20 years of his life in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. He made his first MENCS start in 1998. He has totaled 38 wins in the premier series.

Could he swap rides with Erik Jones? Matt Kenseth to the #77? Matt Kenseth to the #88? The #10? All those are possible and the silly season is now in full effect.

Erik Jones is on a lease. He’s a Joe Gibbs Racing driver. However, JGR allowed him to go race with Furniture Row Racing in 2017. Rather than forcing him to sit out and wait for a seat to open up.

Erik Jones stated, “I’m just driving. For the most part, for me — I don’t know where I’m going to be yet. They haven’t let me know.

Jones is pleased with Furniture Row Racing, “So for me, I’ve been really happy at Furniture Row, and it’s been a steady group of guys over there that I think work really well together. I don’t yet. Hopefully I know soon. It’s kind of getting down to that point. I guess it’s July now, so I’m sure we’ll have an answer here soon.”
