Brad Keselowski wants a new NASCAR racecar design

Brad Keselowski: “I’m frustrated with the sport, that we can’t design a better car than this.”

Brad Keselowski spun out at Kentucky Speedway. All on his own, with a little help from a poor aero situation. He spoke with Claire B Lang on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio and called for some changes to the sport.

Brad Keselowski described the incident, “I got stuck in the aero and it just pulled me around.”

He continued, “You know, it’s just part of the deal when you race these type of tracks that are one groove. And with the car and the way it’s designed. You gotta find a way around it as a driver. I just, didn’t find a way around it.”

Overall, he’s frustrated. Keselowski stated, “I’m probably as much frustrated with myself as I am frustrated with the situation. And then frustrated with the sport. That we can’t design a better car than this, that you can race without having to do everything on the restart.”

In recent months, that very thing as surfaced multiple times. NASCAR is great at restarts. They are certainly entertaining. But the product probably grows a bit stale as they fan out single file over the course of long runs.

“It’s all part of it. I guess that’s where we are right now.”

It’s a poorly designed racecar

“The way this car is. It needs a lot more help than the tire dragon. It’s a poorly designed racecar. It makes racing, on tracks like this, very difficult to put on the show that we want for our fans.”

“You do what you can to gouge and kinda claw on the restarts. You gotta put yourself in bad situations to do that. If you don’t make those moves on the restarts then you run in the back or you have a bad day.”

“More than the car design more than the track. It’s time for this sport to design a new car that’s worthy of where this sport deserves to be. And the show it deserves to put on for it’s fans.”

Since 2012, Brad Keselowski has won 3 races at Kentucky Speedway.

Hours later he continued…

“I hate wrecking, for my team and for my fans (which I must add, there are more #miller2crew fans every week and it’s truly inspiring), Especially when the wreck is my fault.”

“Like anyone else, bad days suck for me and sometimes I lose my cool. But I wanna be clear about 1 thing for everyone that follows me on social media. I love racing, it’s a privilege to be a NASCAR race car driver in this era. I’ll always love this sport, it’s fans and consequently want to see it succeed in every way.”

“So please don’t take my comments about the car today and think any differently about my passion for this sport and belief that it remains the best in the world.”
