International Speedway Corporation announces $30M in facility enhancements – Track renamed as, Richmond Raceway
Richmond International Raceway is dropping the ‘International’. The track will now be know simply as Richmond Raceway.
Beyond the basic re-naming, the track complex is also set for an upgrade. A $30 million dollar upgrade to be exact.
The budget will expand fan amenities, modernize other facilities and rebrand the track’s name and logos.The title of the project is ‘Richmond Raceway Reimagined’.
The entire project is due to be competed by September 2018. Just in time for the Richmond Raceway NASCAR playoff event.
The racing surface itself will re-main unchanged. Everything outside of that, is set to receive an upgrade.
Enhancements include; A new garage area, fan viewing walkway, an inspection station overlook, two new garage suites, pedestrian tunnel, 80 new RV parking spaces and social engagement areas
Victory lane: Additionally, victory lane will be moved. Currently, the Richmond victory lane sits behind the pit wall. The new placement will bring victory lane closer to the grandstands.
Barton Malow, one of the leading sports facility builders in the nation, is the contractor and the DLR Group is the architect for Richmond Raceway Reimagined.
Richmond-based HG Design Studio is the civil engineer on the infield redevelopment project. The modernized infield is scheduled to open for the first NASCAR playoff weekend at Richmond Raceway in the fall of 2018.
The new logo, actually isn’t so new. It’s a throwback logo to when the track was known as Richmond Fairgrounds Raceway.
The striped logo, matches the striped red and white walls surrounding the speedway. The double RR logo is a re-imagination of the original track logo. Sam Bass created the debut logo.
The project is set to get underway on September 9th, 2017.
