If Dale Jr and Ryan Blaney could make 1 NASCAR rule change?

Dale Jr: “No restrictor plates” – Ryan Blaney: “Run whatcha brung”

The Dale Jr podcast is full of interesting things, weekly. This week, Ryan Blaney was a guest on the show.

Dale Earnhardt Jr asked the question: If you could change 1 NASCAR rule. What would you change?

Ryan Blaney has an idea, “I think we should have one race a year. Like the All-Star race. The All-Star race you should be able to ‘Run Whatcha Brung’. Run anything you want.”

“It’s like a NASCAR chassis. It can’t be like an F1 or IndyCar. But, make the body how you want. Motor.”

“No smaller teams can afford to do it. But they’re not going to be in the All-Star race anyway.”

‘It would be pretty cool to do that.”

After thinking about it. Ryan Blaney had another idea. “You should be able to run the spoiler, whatever angle you want.”

What about Dale Earnhardt Jr?

Dale Jr would change plate racing, “I would probably get rid of the restrictor plate. I think you could go 240 at Dega.”

“You’d probably have to lift after a couple laps. Why does that sound so bad? I mean dragsters go 300.”

“It only sounds like a big number because it’s never been done before in a stock car. After running 10 laps at 235, you wouldn’t be able to tell a difference between that and 210.”

‘I would just be curious as to how the car drove and handled. You’re not going to snap your fingers and go run 235. This is something you’d have to work your way up to.”

“You’d probably have to get a different tire. To withstand that kinda load and stress that’s going to put the tire through. You gotta work on the balance of the car, you’re going to have to get that thing to drive.”

“I’m all for trying to make the plate racing… racing again. Kinda where the cars have to handle a bit. Tracks are heading that way, they’re going to take care of themselves here in a little bit.”
