Matt Kenseth: “Everybody’s closer to the same speed”

Matt Kenseth “I think all those big things are kinda over. Because all the teams are so big and it’s so engineering driven. And there’s so many rules.”

Matt Kenseth offered an interview to The Late Shift via Sirius XM NASCAR Radio recently. He was asked if we are passed the era where a driver can take an average car and make it preform.

Matt Kenseth, “Good racecars make drivers look good. Bad racecars make drivers look bad.”

He went on the state that everybody is basically trapped in the same box. That NASCAR engineers have all reached the edge of development with the current racecar package.

Matt Kenseth, “I think certainly in today’s world of racing with all the rules, regulations and how close the cars are. All the big teams and sharing information. And there’s not many engine builders. Stuff like that, everybody’s closer to the same speed.”

He continued, “The competition is tighter than it’s ever ever been. It’s hard for a guy to get an advantage.”

He says the over engineering within NASCAR and the small community make it hard for any team to stay out front.

“People get little advantages and little advantages add up. Their gunna go wins some races and somebody else is going to kinda figure it out.”

“The first guys that got the soft springs and got the nose way down. They went out and won 7 or 8 races before everybody else figured it out and caught up.”
