2017 Bristol Truck Results – August 16, 2017 – NCWTS

2017 Bristol Truck results from August 16, 2017 featuring the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series

Tonight, the weekend begins at Bristol Motor Speedway. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series throws the green flag on the weekend with a Wednesday night special.

Track prep has been applied to the bottom groove of the racing surface. However, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour has pulled up a bulk of the track bite. Their race took place just moments ago. The track is going to feel very different for these truck drivers, compared to qualifying a practice.

Just ahead of the green flag, there’s thunder in Thunder Valley. A message is displayed on colossus, “Please exit the grandstands due to weather” The grandstands have been cleared. However, it’s a small storm cell. Green shortly.

Kyle Busch will start from the pole, alongside Christopher Bell. Stage 1 and stage 2 are 55 laps a piece. The 3rd and final stage is 90 laps. 200 total laps around Bristol Motor Speedway.

Stage 1

2 hours and 2 rain storms later, we’re going green. Most of the rubber and traction compound has been wiped off the race track.

Green flag, Kyle Busch easliy clears Bell into turn 1. That looked planned. Noah Gragson isn’t part of that plan though. Gragson drives to the outside of Bell he takes the 2nd position.

Lap 10, the field is single file around the bottom. It looks like trucks are just riding it out. The track has changed drastically, I’m sure everyone in the field would like to make some chassis adjustments.

Lap 32, Josh Reaume is in the wall, just in front of the leader. Flat right front. That might be a bit concerning. Chase Briscoe rests on the playoff bubble, he was a 1/2 straight-away from going a lap down.

Green flag, Kyle Busch clears Gragson. Crafton tried to take 2nd away on the outside. A wiggle in the middle and he’s forced to forfeit the fight. As he gathers his truck, Bell slips by.

Caution, Stewart Friesen was under T.J. Bell at the entry on turn 3. Bell decided it would be a good idea to pinch him at the entry when Friesen had 3 feet on him. He spun himself as Friesen bounced off the apron with nowhere to go, then bounced back into Bell.

Green, 17 to go. Kyle Busch has no issues on restarts. He leads into turn 1.

9 to go, Kyle Busch leads Gragson by .6 seconds.

Austin Cindric and Chase Briscoe lead the field. They stayed out. Green, Matt Crafton looks to the outside for the lead in turn 2. Cindric slams the door shut. Cindric dives to the bottom. He’s there in turn 3. Cindric comes down anyway. He’s sideways! Saves it! Crafton to the lead.

This feels a bit like the old Bristol.

Kyle Busch is working on Christopher Bell for 3rd. Busch had tried everything. Now, he’s trying to rubber in the middle all on his own. Bell stomps the brakes early in turn 3, he lets his car own drive by on the outside. Team orders?

25 to go in stage 2. Kyle Busch is now all over Austin Cindric for 2nd. Kyle Busch has the middle working. He’s entering in the middle and swinging to the bottom on exit, very late apex.

He’s getting a big run on Cindric off the corner. He looks to the outside, Cindric throws the block. Busch parks his run on the rear bumper and pushes him all the way into turn 1. Perhaps a light wiggle from Cindric. Busch gets a run on the outside, he’s there this time. Busch takes the outside lane and drives away.

10 to go in stage 2, Busch is now on the back bumper of Matt Crafton for the lead. Busch looks to the outside. Traffic ahead, Busch has to lift. Crafton drifts up the banking, he’s caught sleeping. Busch to the bottom, he fills the gap and takes the inside away. Crafton tried to close the door, it was too late.

Busch to the lead. He sweeps stage 1 and stage 2 at Bristol.

Stage 3

Trouble on pit road. Kaz Grala is on pit road with the hood lifted.

More trouble! Speeding on pit road for Kyle Busch! Noah Gragson, his crew jumped over the wall too soon. That’s going to be fun. The two fastest trucks have just been sent to the tail.

Green, Matt Crafton leads the field into turn 1.

Kyle Busch and Noah Gragson have found the high side. They run nose to tail. 70 laps remain, Kyle Busch is 14th.

Slicing through the field. Kyle Busch has left Gragson.

34 to go, Kyle Busch to 2nd. He looks to the outside of Crafton for the lead. A massive wiggle from Kyle Busch on the exit of turn 2. He’s still in the gas! He completes the pass in turns 3-4. Busch leads.

Kyle Busch is gone. In his own league

6 to go, Haley hits the apron at the entry. He was forced, a little bit by Austin Wayne Self. Haley drives up the banking. That puts Self into the wall.

Austin Wayne Self isn’t happy at all. He cuts in front of Haley under caution. Wayne coasts slowly around Haley. No contact was made, but he thought long and hard about it.

NASCAR overtime, green-white-checkered. Kyle Busch picks the inside, Crafton to the outside.

Green flag, Kyle Busch leads by two truck lengths into turn 1. Ten truck lengths win 1 to go. Kyle Busch wins again at Bristol!

Post-Race Comments

Kyle Busch: “I knew once we got that penalty, that I had to somewhere other than where everybody else was. I just started grooming the top. It took about 15 laps for it to come in. Then, it started going. It was pretty fast.”

The Bristol truck winner concluded, “It was a lot of fun to come through the field like that. It kinda gave me some ideas about the rest of the week. It probably showed a bunch of stuff too. This is the start of a triple, so hopefully we get it.”
