Mark Martin discusses new NASCAR format

Mark Martin made his NASCAR debut in 1981. He spent 22 years in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series, leaving the drivers seat in 2013.

A lot has changed since his days of tall ride heights, soft springs and big spoilers. How does Mark Martin feel about the new NASCAR changes?

“I love stage racing”, stated Mark Martin in a press conference at Darlington Raceway.

“My team and I would have enjoyed the strategy to try and maximize our points. If we would have been able to race under that situation when I raced.”

“I love watching it because it’s interesting to see who decides to give up points at the end of stage 1 to try and gain some on stage 2.”

“The strategy’s that unfold are completely different than a continues race. We all know that add’s so much interest and brings the spotlight a little more toward the crew chiefs as well as the drivers.”

“The racing, those stage finishes, has been fantastic.”

“That’s one of my favorite changes that have been made to the series that I can recall in any time recently.”

Mark Martin never won a NASCAR Cup Series championship. However, he did finish 2nd, five times.
