2017 Richmond Raceway Results from September 8th, 2017 featuring the NASCAR Xfinity Series

Tonight, NASCAR goes short track racing. It’s not the final regular season race for for Xfinity Series but time is running out for the bubble drivers.

Kyle Busch rolls off on the pole. It’s his final NASCAR Xfinity Series race of 2017. He’s won 5 of 9 so far this year. Dale Earnhardt Jr is also making a NXS appearance tonight.

Stage 1

75 laps in stage 1. Green flag, Kyle Busch gets the jump on the inside. Brennan Poole doesn’t get going at all, he spun his tires.

Lap 31, most drivers are glued to the bottom lane. Elliott Sadler is experimenting. He’s working in the middle groove, by himself.

Ty Dillon is tired of riding behind Christopher Bell. He gives him a little bump. Bell chases it up the track, Dillon moves under and takes the 13th position.

Lap 46, battle for the lead. Kyle Busch has moved all the way to the 3rd lane. Brad Keselowsi moves to the bottom. He nearly clears him, Kyle Busch carries momentum off the high line and down the straight. Next lap, Keselowski gets it done, new leader.

Lap 53, Bobby Earnhardt is in the wall. His right front went flat half way down the back straight. He went into turn 3, the car never turned.

Daniel Hemric clipped the commitment box on the way to pit road. He’s got new tires, but he’s going all the way to the tail. Christopher Bell and others have new tires, they restart 14th on back.

Green flag, Kyle Busch gets the jump into turn 1. 3 wide behind them.

15 to go in stage 1, Ty Dillon and Christopher Bell are flying through the field on new tires. +11 positions, he’s up to 4th.

12 to go, Ty Dillon runs 3rd. He’s under Keselowski. Now, Kyle Busch. New leader, Ty Dillon. Christopher Bell is up to 2nd.

5 to go, Christopher Bell is looking high in turn 4. Ty Dillon comes from the bottom to the top on corner exit. Bell has momentum and crosses to the bottom. He’s on the inside in turn 1. New leader, Bell.

Ty Dillon crosses him again, back to the lead. Bell lost several car lengths.

1 to go, Ross Chastain and Brandon Jones are racing to be the first lapped down car. Chastain drives is hard on entry. Too hard, his drifts up the banking and clips Jones. The #33 of Brandon Jones goes around. Caution.

Ty Dillon wins stage 1 at Richmond Raceway.

Stage 2

Daniel Hemric wins the race off pit road. In 3rd, off 1st. Brendan Gaughan stayed out. 75 more laps coming up.

Green flag, Gaughan selects the outside line to stay out of the way. He drifts way up to the 3rd lane in turn 1. The field goes by, Christopher Bell is trapped behind him. They both fall outside the top ten off turn 2. Hemric leads.

Lap 98, Kyle Busch looks to the outside of Hemric in turn 3. He’s got a fender on him at the exit of turn 4. Busch completes the pass in turn 1. New leader. Keselowski clicks by Hemric as well.

Justin Allgaier is losing a side skirt, left side flopping in the air. Tonight is the debut of the composite bodies. The composite skirts are much thinner than the steel skirts.

Kyle Busch has just led his 1,389th NASCAR Xfinity Series lap at Richmond Raceway. That passes Kevin Harvick’s record.

25 to go in stage 2, Brendan Gaughan has just gone a lap down. He started 1st after staying out at the start of stage 2. 19 cars remain on the lead lap.

10 to go, Kyle Busch leads Brad Keselowski by 1 second. But, just like in stage 1, that gap is closing.

5 to go, Kesleowski is there. Nose to tail. Kyle Busch selects the middle.

The bottom is open for Keselowski, he takes it. Kyle Busch carries the highside momentum. Busch clips the front straight wall.

1 to go, still side by side. Keselowski runs deep into turn 1. He drifts up through the center of 1-2, this pushes Kyle Busch off his line. Keselowski completes the pass in turn 3.

Brad Keselowski wins stage 2!

Stage 3

Kyle Busch and Daniel Hemric beat Keselowski off pit road. “It’s just getting to tight at the end. I do feel like I’m sliding the right rear for the first part of the run,” Kyle Busch radio.

100 laps to go. Green flag, Kyle Busch takes the lead. Keselowski is back to 2nd.

Lap 172, Kyle Busch gets stalled by a lapped car. Keselowski evaporates the gap. He looks to the outside in turn 4, Keselowski to the lead. Kyle Busch crosses him, takes the lead back.

25 to go, Kyle Busch leads Brad Keselowski by .5 seconds.

17 to go, Keselowski has closed the gap. Kyle Busch is depp in lapped traffic. Keselowski goes to the middle, 3 wide for the lead. New leader.

3 stages in a row, Brad Keselowski has had a faster car at the end of the run.

5 to go, Keselowski leads by 1.7 seconds.

Keselowski wins at Richmond Raceway!

Elliott Salder finished 5th. He clinches the regular session championship.

“We just had a lot of speed on those long runs. I think, we know that we’re probably all a little bit behind the Toyota’s. If you work real hard and be smooth you can win races like this,” Brad Keselowski comments from victory lane.

“When you race Kyle you know you’re racing one of the best. He and I might not always get along but that doesn’t mean I don’t have respect for his talent,” Keselowski talks on his battle with his MENCS rival.
