C Main
The C Main was scratched due to pending weather. The program will be rushed tonight. Everyone goes into the B Main.
B Main
Jesse Stovall and Steve Francis lead the field to the green flag. 20 laps around Knoxville Speedway. The top 6 will transfer to the tail of the A Main. Light rain drops fall.
Green flag, Jesse Stovall takes the lead on the outside in turn 1. Steve Francis falls to 3rd. Bronson is chasing down the leader.
Caution. Big crash in turn 2. Bob King and Jordan Yaggy are involved. The King car is destroyed. Both drivers are ok.
Green, 15 to go. Stovall get the launch. He drives right to the top in turn 1.
3 wide for 2nd. Tyler Erb is in the middle. He lifts to get out of that situation.
Someone had to. The groove is far too narrow to race 3 wide right now.
8 to go, Stovall is driving away from Kyle Bronson.
5 to go, Stovall is trapped behind a lapped. Bronson and Francis are bumper to bumper with the leader. The lapped pulls in. Stovall begins to drive away.
1 to go, caution. Jake O’Neil.
Green, Stovall holds them off. He takes the win in the B Main.
A Main
Just as the A Main was being called to staging the rain had begun to fall. They’ve lost the racetrack rain delay.
A few hour delay… we’re ready to go. Mike Marlar and Jonathan Davenport lead the field to green. The 100 lap Main Event is next, paying $40,000 to the winner.
Green flag, side by side into turn 1. Davenport carries momentum off turn 2, to the lead. He drops to the bottom and takes the inside line away from Mike Marlar.
The track is bad fast after the rain. Most cars are single file but Josh Richards found a way by Mike Marlar for 2nd.
The track is widening out. Two grooves of racing now.
Lap 17, caution. Brian Shirley is in the wall.
Green flag, Josh Richards beat Jonathan Davenport into turn 1. Davenport slams the cushion, the left front lifted a foot off the ground. He had to back out of the throttle. Davenport drops outside the top five.
Lap 27, caution. Chris Simpson has come to a stop on the racetrack.
Green. Caution. Mars to the pit lane, flat right rear.
Green. Josh Richards clears him by the flag stand. Brandon Sheppard is up to 3rd.
Caution. Shannon Babb is stopped on track. Gregg Satterlee hits pit lane, flat right rear.
Green. Josh Richards gets another great jump. Davenport is climbing back through the field, 3rd.
Richards runs the top. Marlar on the bottom. Marlar is hanging within 3 car lengths.
Lap 42, caution. Gregg Satterlee is in the wall in turn 3. Several cars hit the pits, all right rear changes.
Green. Davenport up to 2nd. He’s chasing down Josh Richards.
Mistake! Davenport jumped the cushion off turn 2. the #49 loses a spot, back to 3rd.
Lap 46, Caution.
Green flag. Davenport back to 2nd. Halfway, Davenport is hanging with Richards. Caution. Tyler Erb is slow on track.
This will be the fuel stop. Crews will come on track and funnel fuel into the tanks. Trouble! The right front tire on Jonathan Davenport’s machine has gone flat. He’ll restart at the tail.
Green flag, Josh Richards leads. They are racing hard for 2nd. As Marlar and Sheppard battle side by side, Don O’Neal steals a position from both of them. Don O’Neal to 2nd.
He’s running down Josh Richards. This is the closest anyone has been to the #1 car after a 5 lap run. But, just as I say that Richards begins to pull away.
Lap 58, trouble. Don O’Neal is slow. Caution. He pulls it to the pits and tosses the steering wheel as he climbs from the car.
Green. Tim McCreadie had joined the battle. He’s running side by side with Marlar for 3rd.
24 to go, caution. Rodney Sanders has been smoking the right rear for 10 laps. He pulls to the pits.
Green. Trouble in turn 1. Steve Francis drove to the bottom, slides to the top. He gives a door to Hudson O’Neal. But Brandon Sheppard has bigger problems. Sheppard is slow. Caution. To the pits and back out.
Green. Jared Landers has found a groove. He catches the cushion in turn 1. Around Marlar, Landers to 2nd.
He’s chasing down the leader! He’s there, Landers to the bottom in turn 3. He pulls even but can’t make it stick. Landers slides from the bottom all the way to the wall on exit. Wheel spin, he loses 5 car lengths. Caution.
15 to go, green. Mike Marlar is under Landers in turn 1. He slides to the top and takes Landers’ line away. Now, Marlar is running down Richards.
Marlar had a run off turn 4. Richards thinks about giving him room. He shuts the door at the last second. Marlar dives to the bottom in turn 1. Clear. New leader, Mike Marlar.
Marlar is driving away. Trouble! Josh Richards is in the wall in turn 3 with just 5 laps to go.
Green. Mike Marlar drives away. He wins the 2017 Late Model Nationals at Knoxville Raceway!

Quotes
Mike Marlar: “Tonight makes me feel really good about being a racecar driver. That wasn’t a race, that was a battle right there. With 25 to go, I thought man I need to start going and give it all I had. I let Jared Landers get by me and then I got back by him when he got high in turn one. I thought now I am good. I could run this thing to death. I think I could do it.”
“There was a caution as soon as I got passed by Landers. Luckily, I got back by him on the restart. I don’t think Josh was at his best when I caught him and passed him for the lead. I think he was having an issue. This is awesome. I want to thank Josh and Jerry for their help. Without them I couldn’t do this. They are back at the shop everyday working on the car. My car owner Ronnie Delk and my wife Stacy, thanks for all they do.”
Jonathan Davenport: “I had a plan on that last restart and it just worked out. I wondered where everyone was going. Everybody took off and went to the bottom of the track. They just left the door open for me and I took advantage of it. Our car wasn’t any good in traffic for whatever reason. The best car won the race. Josh must have been pretty good too. He passed me early on. I just to thank my guys for getting me back out there after we pitted.”
Jared Landers: “I hurt my tires by lap 50. I was worried about it. I got up there with Josh and I had some good momentum going and I jumped the cushion and it hurt me. I cost us that spot. I will take a top-three. That was a lot of laps there. I hadn’t raced that hard for a while.”
