John Travolta will star in new dirt track movie coming in 2018

Trading Paint will be released in theaters on June 1st, 2018. Our little dirt tracks will come to the big screen. It’s big news for the dirt racing community.

Movie Description: “A veteran race car driver and his son, a fellow driver, overcome family and professional conflicts, balancing competition, ego, resentment and a racing nemesis to come out stronger on the other side.”

“Trading Paint revolves around a down and out dirt track racing legend (Travolta), who is drawn back into the winners circle after his son, an aspiring driver, joins a competitor’s racing team and incites an intense and dangerous competition between father and son.”

Filming at Talladega Short Track

The movie set is currently in the mist of several filming days at the Talladega Short Track. Since late August, the set has been off an on at the track. Filming has only just begun.

The track invited fellow racers and fans to the speedway. The extra’s were not paid.

However, those racers had the opportunity to be a part of a summer movie. They might also have the slight possibility to showcase their local sponsors on the worldwide big screen.

Additionally, the grandstands were filled with more extra’s.

John Travolta himself has been behind the wheel during filming. While the speeds are typically slower than the dirt track racers are used to.

“He practiced over here a couple of days. Did very well! Very well for someone who had never been in a dirt car!,” stated Rita Donahoo to wiat.com, the public relations representative for Talladega Short Track.

“Well, he asked questions, he listened, he took off slow, built his speed up. He did it actually around the parking lot because it was a day like today. It was raining. He was that adamant about gonna learn this thing. We did that.”

“He came back the next day, it was dry and he got on the track here and took off.”
