ThorSport Racing won with a truck from the shop fire

Eddie Troconis: “We nicknamed it Marshmallow”

In 2015, the ThorSport Racing shop caught fire. A fire started outside the shop, it went up the walls and found it’s way to the roof. The rubber roof, also caught fire. Soon, the fire spread inside the shop. The team had to start over.

“I wanna say, probably half of my fleet, you know, the trucks that I have assigned for the #27. They are trucks that came back from the fire,” Eddie Troconis stated on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

“This chassis truck, #37 from ThorSport, we nicknamed it ‘Marshmallow’. We had to race it with that smoky color on the chassis, gray, last year. That was one of the trucks that was more complete, we took [it] to Iowa, after the fire.”

“The nickname on the truck stayed, as Marshmallow. Over the winter time, Duke wants to do it right here at ThorSport. We’re able to rebuild every single chassis truck that we had in house.”

“So, they’re all cut down, sandblasted, painted, brand new bodies, brand new suspension. The essence of the chassis is the same chassis [from the fire]. Everything that has come out of the fire, we built it stronger.”

“You’re going to have the trophy in the living room. Years from now you’re going to be like, ‘This was my first win.’ ”

Eddie Troconis claimed his first win as a NASCAR crew chief on Saturday night. At the same time, it was also the first win for NASCAR driver Ben Rhodes.
