Roush Yates Engines: Jack Roush tells the story

Jack Roush speaks on Roush Yates Engines and modern day NASCAR engine building

On Friday, Roush Fenway Racing opened their doors for a semi-annual event. The cars are on display and team owner Jack Roush is there to talk NASCAR and sign autographs for the fans.

Roush tells the story of Roush Yates Engines.

“Well, about 12 years ago, we put out engine builders together. We melded them together,” Jack Roush tells the story of Roush Yates Engines to Tradin’ Paint on Sirius XM NASCAR Radio.

“We have had very different conversation before that. I had some things, that were my secrets. That I guarded very carefully. And he had some things that were his secrets. That he guarded as carefully or more carefully than I had.”

“We had a melding of minds when we were able to put it together. The first year we combined, we put it together, in December. We went to Daytona and had the front row at the Daytona 500.”

“Art is the operative word. My challenge this year, or maybe even the last couple years is getting the right balance between the new science, that’s come from oversea’s and the traditional art.”

“I think Robert and I were both artists. We worked in engineering subjects. But, we were probably more comfortable with the artwork than the science.”

“Today, the pendulum has swung heavily toward the science. There’s less for the artists to do the there used to be.”
