On-track altercation results in taser action by Police
On October 14th, Anderson Speedway hosted a figure 8 race at the Anderson, IN racetrack. Since the event, a video from the event has gone viral.
Race car driver tased in the video posted below.
A driver-to-driver fight took place on the front-straight away. One driver was tased by Police in front of the crowd. Both drivers were arrested and taken from the speedway in handcuffs.
Jeffery Swinford was spun in the 2nd turn. Shawn Cullen, driver of the #33 attempted to make it 3 wide under braking. Naturally, they ran out of room.
Jeffery Swinford spun through the infield grass. He had some time to think about his next action. Upon, re-fire he drove to the #33 who was broken and stranded on the front straight, due to the contact.
The all-black machine drove to the front straight to voice frustration and do a lot of hand signaling. Evidently, he didn’t get the response he was looking for from the #33.
Jeffery Swinford did a 18o degree burnout to face the direction of Cullen. He then lit up the tires and drove directly at the left front of the broken down machine.
He climbed on top of the car and continued to light the tires. Water began to fall from underneath the machine. Surely a broken radiator among many other broken pieces.
Shawn Cullen chose the reaction of almost any race car driver in the world. He climbed from his machine, took off his helmet, dropped it on the ground and b-lined for the drivers window of Swinford. That’s when he began throwing punch after punch as the crowd erupted.
Police came in to put the show to an end.
The officer used a taser gun on Shawn Cullen as he continued to throw punches in the presence of police. When the trigger was pulled, Cullen flopped to the ground. He then complied with police commands, putting his hands behind his back as police installed the handcuffs.
It’s racing.
-Mike Swinford
“You run into us not once, but twice in the same race,” said Mike Swinford told rtv6. “What are you gonna do back up and quit? It’s racing. Is racing a sport where you are gonna back up and let the other go because he is beating your car?.”
It is absolutely totally, dangerous
-Rick Dawson
“It is absolutely totally, dangerous,” said Anderson Speedway owner Rick Dawson. “It is a 3500 pound race car going after an individual. It’s no different than a gun or a knife, or a bomb as far as I’m concerned. It’s gonna have the same results of things don’t go right.”
We’ve seen [the] event with Tony Stewart, somebody got killed in that incident.
-Rodney Cummings
“We’ve seen [the] event with Tony Stewart, somebody got killed in that incident,” said Rodney Cummings. “It’s a dangerous place to be and injuries can occur. Don’t let your temper get the better of you. That would be the moral of the story.”
