Dirt Track World Championship Results – October 20, 2017 – LOLMDS

Qualifying

No qualifying tonight at Portsmouth. Pill draw will set the grids in round 1.

Heat 1
Round 1

Josh Bocook and Hudson O’Neal get the program rolling. O’Neal to the lead on the outside in turn 1. False start. Green, Hudson O’Neal has them clear before turn 1.

Jonathan Davenport started dead last. He’s flying through the field in the Flinstone F1yer. O’Neal is running away with it at the front. Caution.

Green, O’Neal is gone again. Davenport dives under Bronson in turn 1, not enough on the drive off. He tries it again. He completes the pass, Davenport from the tail to 2nd.

Hudson O’Neal wins the first heat of the night.

Heat 2
Round 1

Dennis Erb Jr and Gregg Saterlee lead the field to green. Erb and Satterlee are side by side at the entry to turn 1. Erb takes the lead in the center.

Bloomquist started 6th in his throwback machine. He’s up to 3rd in no time. Caution, lap 7.

Green, Bloomquist is looking at the lead. He pulls low on Erb. Still there, side by side. Back to turn 1, Bloomquist completes the pass.

From 6th to the win. Bloomquist wins heat 2.

Heat 3
Round 1

Devin Gilpin and Jackie Boggs trail the pace truck. Green, Boggs to the lead in turn 1. Gilpin checked up early. Bumps form in turn 1.

Caution, lap 5. Green, Boggs back to the lead. He drives off to the win in heat 3.

Heat 4
Round 1

Don O’Neal and Jason Jameson lead then to green. False start. Green, Jameson gets sideways through the bumps in turn 1. Pearson Jr and Feger are looking and heading directly for the drivers side door.

Jameson comes down the banking, light contact with Feger has him straightened back out. Trouble at the back.

Green, Overton is coming through the field. 3 wide on both ends. He stalls out at Pearson Jr.

Don O’Neal becomes the second O’Neal to win a heattonight. He wins heat 4.

Heat 5
Round 1

Billy Gullian and Frank Heckenast Jr lead them to the green flag. Jared Hawkins throws it in 3 wide, from row 2. He held it on the bottom but they still ran out of room. Hawkins doors Gullian who doors Heckenast.

I’m not sure but I think Gullian might have turned in early in the middle then clipped Hawkins as he went by on the bottom. Or Hawkins just doored him, it happened quick.

Both front row starters are sent up up the banking. Each of the slam the outside wall. Both will exit the track on the hook.

Green, Hawkins to the lead but Owens is coming. He’s going to run out of time as Hawkins wins heat 5

Heat 6
Round 1

Michael Brown and Steve Stollings take the green. Side by side for the lead in turn 1, again in turn 2. Stallings gets sideways on the exit of turn 4, he nearly clips McCreadie as he comes through on the bottom. He gathers it back up, no caution. Brown and McCreadie up front.

Lap 8, caution. Green, McCreadie has a run. He’s at the bumper but he dives it to the bottom. Slide job in turn 1. He catches the cushion. Brown tried the cross over on exit, to no avail.

McCreadie wins heat 6.

Heat 7
Round 1

Brandon Sheppard and Mason Zeigler side by side in heat 7. Sheppard holds the lead in turn 1. Zeigler dives it in on the bottom in turn 2. New leader, Zeigler.

Shepasrd is hanging with him. He looks low in turn 1, not enough. Zeigler slips on the exit of turn 2. Sheppard has a run down the back. He completes the pass in turn 3.

Sheppard drives to the win as Richards rounds up Zeigler for 2nd.

Heat 8
Round 1

Delmas Conley and Jason Covert lead them to green. Slow, slow start. Green. False start as Casebolt nearly loops it.

Green, Conley drives it hard to the bottom. He slides up the banking and they cross on exit. Covert to the lead. Slide job again back in turn 1, Conley back to the lead.

Conley drives off to win the final heat in round 1.

Heat 1
Round 2

Eddie Carrier Jr gets the jump. Bloomquist to 2nd. Earl Pearson Jr started 6th, he’s up to 3rd. Caution.

Green. The top 4 are nose to tail. Earl Pearson Jr is parked on the bumper of Carrier Jr. They break away from the pack.

1 to go, Earl Pearson Jr looks to the high side in 3-4. He pulls even but Carrier makes up the lost ground on exit. Carrier Jr slides in front as the take the checkered flag.

Heat 2
Round 2

Dale McDowell and Jason Perry lead the field to green. McDowell has a huge lead out of turn 2.

McDowell drives away. He wins heat 2 in round 2.

Heat 3
Round 2

Jimmy Owens and Tyler Carpenter lead the to the green flag.

Owens to the lead in turn 1. Casebolt to 2nd. Owens has left the field. Caution.

Green, Owens gets it done. He wins heat 3

Heat 4
Round 2

Rod Conley and Audie Swartz ride behind the pace truck. Green, trouble for Josh Richards. He cant get it going forward off turn 2. No drive or a flat tire. RJ Conley didnt see him slowing as cars ducked around him on the front stretch. Hard on the brakes to avoid running into him, Conley loops it in turn 1. Caution. Richards to the pits and back out!

Green, Rod Conley leads. Caution. Lanigan is in trouble. He hits the pits and doesn’t return.

Green, Richards is flying through the field. He’s driving it harder into turn 3 than anyone. 4th, 3rd and now he gets by Chub Frank for 2nd.

Richards gets to the bumper of Rod Conley but runs out of time. The cross under the flag stand nose to tail.

Heat 5
Round 2

Doug Drown and Chris Hackett take the green. Drown to the lead in turn 1. Marlar to 2nd.

Drown begins to checkout.

Spoke too soon. Marlar is catching Drown. At the same time Ferguson is checking Marlar. Top 3 nose to tail. All within two car lengths. Barely too far to make any moves.

Drown wins heat 5.

Heat 6
Round 2

Tyler Erb and Zach Dohm hit the starting chalk. Erb to the lead in turn 1. Caution, false start. Green, Dohm to the lead on the high side.

Tyler Erb gets completely sideways in turn 2. He has no choice but to drive down the banking, that’s where to nose was pointed. The field splits him as he gathers it back up. Still green, Erb falls outside the top 5.

Caution. Green, Dohm drives to the win in heat 6.

Heat 7
Round 2

Jonathan Davenport and Eric Wells line up on row 1. Green, Davenport to the lead in turn 1. Wells loses several spots.

Brandon Fouts takes 2nd. He has no drive off turn 2. Wells has a huge run on the cushion. With a car to his inside, Fouts slides to the wall. Wells cuts down the banking, splitting both cars. He’s up to 2nd.

Trouble! Wells is around in turn 3. Big crash as 3 cars pile into him. McCreadie narrowly misses it all! McCreadie was running last, struggling to get going.

Restart, Davenport leads. The field has thinned and McCreadie is losing touch with the field. Smoke appears from the rear on McCreadie. He has a trail of sparks. They trail the race car, all the way down the straights.

McCreadie is slow, caution. To the pits, he’s back out!

Green, Davenport back to the lead. McCreadie’s smoke and sparks have disappeared. He’s also picking up spots!

Davenport drives to the win in heat 7.

Heat 8
Round 2

Tim Dohm and Mark Frazier set the front row for the final race of the night. Green, Dohm leads out of turn 2.

At the back, Zeigler is poking his nose in any hole he can find. But they keep closing! Finally, he’s through.

Zeigler is up to 3rd and looking for 2nd. But he’s suddenly losing ground. 1 to go, Zeigler has lost drive! Tim Dohm wins the final heat of the night!

Tomorrow night, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series championship battle concludes. The event will run the 2nd portion of the program tomorrow night. The race winner will hit the road with a $100,000 check.
