Chase Elliott was heading to his first career win. In addition, he was going to punch his ticket to the final 4.

Watch the videos of the Martinsville Speedway incident below.

He was controlling the final stage at Martinsville Speedway. However, after losing the lead on a pit stop, he had to battle back to the lead.

He did, a door slam to Brad Keselowski moved the #2 up the track. That gave Chase Elliott the lead but also opened the door for Denny Hamlin. Hamlin looked to the inside in turn 1, Elliott held him off on the high side.

Hamlin got to his bumper at the entry to turn 3.

After the race

After the race, Chase Elliott found Denny Hamlin.

Elliott turned dead right, putting Hamlin into the wall at slow speeds as the crowd erupted. Hamlin then pulled in front of him and stepped on the brake pedal.

Hamlin and Elliott both climbed from their cars. No punches were thrown, they just talked it out. “You wrecked me! Come on man?!,” Chase Elliott screams in Hamlin’s face, over the voice of the crowd.

“I got in the back of him and he spun out,” Denny Hamlin tells NBC as the crowd boo’s Hamlin.

“I was truing to get a race win. Everybody wrecked everybody, there at the end. It was complete bullshit, chaos.”

“I got in the back of him and he spun out. Somebody got in the back of me and I wrecked too. It was a mess at the end. I hate it for his team. I understand they’ve had a win for a long time coming.”

“I’m not sitting here saying I wrecked him on purpose. I tried to move him out of the way and he spun out. He didn’t make the corner because I had his backend jacked up, that’s for sure.”

“I was extremely loose. I got in there too hot and I got into the back of him.”

Chase Elliott

Chase Elliott stood 15 feet from Hamlin during that interview. Elliott is next to tell his side…

“You know, he come over and talk to me down the back straight-away,” Chase Elliott states to NBC as the crowd cheers in favor.

“The funny thing was, he said somebody was pushing him. There wasn’t two car lengths between him and the next guy.”

“My momma always said, ‘If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.’ So, he’s not even worth my time. We’re gunna go on to Texas.”

“It’s just unnecessary. We had a clean restart, Brad and I were racing hard for the lead. And there was no one pushing him into turn 3.”

“I wanted to see the replay. That’s what I thought happened and that’s what happened. It’s definitely 100% unnecessary and uncalled for.”

“We had a good car here today and we had an opportunity. I felt like I was doing what I needed to do. You know, I can’t control his decisions and whatever the hell that was.”

“On to Texas,” Chase Elliott concludes.
