Oh by the way, Cole Custer won the race – Custer claimed his first NASCAR Xfinity Series win
It was a great race behind him. But, at the front, Cole Custer checked out into the Florida sunset.
Cole Custer received a perfect driver rating of 150.0. For those that aren’t aware, the loop data are statistics and ratings sent from the scoring tower. Every pass and every lap is analyzed and effect the score at the end of the race.
A perfect box score is almost unheard of. For reference, a perfect score has only been achieved 17 times in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series since loop data began in 2005. Though, Cole Custer just added a tally on the Xfinity side.
Cole Custer
“We just had an extremely good car,” Cole Custer told reporters from the Homestead-Miami Speedway media center. “We came down here and tested a couple months ago. Really, the second we hit the track we knew we were going to be good the whole time.”
“We’ve been good all year. It’s just been a matter of what’s going to go wrong, really. I think we really did a good job of making our car race comfortable and being able to move around a little bit.”
“I can’t really explain it. It feels like you’re going 2 mph out there. You know, just barely in the gas. But, you’re a .5 second better than the whole field.”
Kevin Meendering
Crew Chief
“We tested here and it almost goes back to that test,” stated Kevin Meendering. “The entire test we were 1-2 tenths quicker than anybody else that was at that test.”
Tony Stewart
Team Owner
“It just makes me really wish we would’ve got through Phoenix last week,” team co-owner Tony Stewart stated. “We would have had a shot, for sure.”
How much have you seen Cole grow?
“Well, he’s only about a 1/4 inch taller. It’s not that big of a deal,” Stewart says with a laugh. “I don’t think the first 3-4 times he came to the shop, he even looked at me. It was about the 8th or 10th time that he actually spoke to me. Like wow, you do talk.”
“His average on the 1.5 mile tracks was number 1 in this series. He definitely showed strength at track you have to be good at. I think he’s grown a lot. The second time around at these tracks I think was huge for him, in these cars.”
