Last night, the NASCAR Hall of Fame inducted new members. It was a dinner featuring the entire industry. The now retired Dale Earnhardt Jr was on hand for the show in Charlotte, NC.

The NASCAR snapchat caught up with the former #88 driver to ask some questions. One the questions was about advice for a rookie driver.

NASCAR specifically, there’s a lot of new things to learn. It’s not only with the car. Outside of the car, there’s a lot to learn too. One of those things, is how to resonate with the fanbase.

NASCAR has several new drivers coming into the cup scene in 2018. Two of those new drivers are at Hendrick Motorsports, the former team for Dale Jr. William Byron will fill the #24. Alex Bowman isn’t a rookie, but he’s still a new driver and will fill the #88 in 2018.

What’s the biggest piece of advice you can tell somebody who’s just starting out?

“There’s so much you can tell somebody who’s just starting out,” Dale Earnhardt Jr explains. “Just be yourself. In the car, out of the car, be true to who you are.”

“I think people will appreciate that. A genuine personality and a genuine attitude. Try to open up and be yourself.”

“Try not to be too much of an introvert. Be an extrovert.”

Dale Earnhardt Jr spent 19 years in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. He won 26 races and dominated the most popular driver award. In 2018, Dale Earnhardt Jr heads to the TV booth.

The NASCAR Hall of Fame inductions included; Red Byron, Ray Evernham, Ron Hornaday Jr, Ken Squier, Robert Yates, Jim France, Norma “Dusty” Brandel
