East Bay Results – February 7, 2018 – Lucas Oil Late Models

42nd Annual Winternationals: Night 3 Results featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series

Tonight, it’s the third night of racing at East Bay Raceway Park. The 3/10 of a mile dirt oval hosts the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. This time the winning payout has been upgraded to $7,000.

Jimmy Owens, Darrell Lanigan and Don O’Neal have been here all week. Tonight, they make their first starts.

Heat 1 – Report

Boom Briggs and Tim Dohm set row number 1 in the first heat race of the night. Green, Jimmy Owens sneaks through from the second row. He leads out of turn 2.

One to go, Briggs has run him back down. Briggs looks low in turn 1. They run off the corner even but Owens has much more momentum. Briggs loses a ton of ground in turn 3.

In his first race of the week, Jimmy Owens wins.

Heat 2 – Report

Kyle Bronson and Jesse Stovall trail the pace truck. Green, Bronson drives it deep into turn 1. Stovall catches the cushion. Stovall wins the race off turn 2.

Caution is out, theres a slow car on track.

Green, Josh Richards pulls a cross over on the restart. He started outside row two. Richards slices them and he’s looking for the lead on the bottom in turn 1. He’s got it.

Richards wins heat race number two.

Heat 3 – Report

Gregg Satterlee and Timothy Culp lead the to green. Green, Satterlee dives to the bottom. It’s a turn 1 slider.

He sticks it. Satterlee catches the cushion ahead of Culp.

Culp cuts down the banking and under Satterlee down the back. They’re even through turn 3. Culp gets loose under Satterlee.

Satterlee drives off to win heat race number three.

Heat 4 – Report

Mike Benedum and Brandon Overton lead the field to green. Several failed attempts at the start of this one. Finally, we’re green.

Overton is clear into turn 1. Hudson O’Neal slides them all to take 2nd.

Lap 8, Billy Moyer Jr slides Hudson O’Neal in turn 2. He’s not clear but he thought he was. O’Neal lifts as the make LF to RR contact. Moyer takes the position.

Overton wins heat 4.

Heat 5 – Report

Bobby Pierce and Dennis Erb Jr set the front row. Green, Erb leads by a nose into turn 1. Pierce fights back on the bottom. He nearly clears Erb but the #28 has the highside momentum off the corner.

Pierce tries to fight away the lead once more in turn 3. Not enough, Erb holds on.

Dennis Erb wins heat 5.

Heat 6 – Report

Jonathan Davenport and Devin Moran trail the pace truck ahead of the final heat race of the night.

Green, Davenport dives into turn 1, he leads by a car length. Davenport checks out on the field. He wins heat 6.

B Mains – Report

Kyle Bronson wins B Main #1.

Mason Zeigler wins B Main #2.

Main Event – Report

40 laps around East Bay Raceway Park is next. Jimmy Owens and Brandon Overton will lead the field to green. Green flag.

Green, Josh Richards takes them 3 wide into turn 3. 3 wide off turn 4. False start.

Green, Owens and Richards are around Overton. Owens leaves the top open for Overton. No he doesn’t, Owens clears to the wall on the exit.

Overton swings to the middle, 3 wide in turn 3. Overton has to lift in turn 4.

Owens and Richards battle. They swap lanes, Richards wins the fight.

Lap 9, caution.

Green, Richards punches it early. He’s clear by 2 at the flagstand. Satterlee to 2nd.

Overton and Satterlee battle for 2nd. Overton drives to the bottom in turn 3. He drifts up, light door to door contact. Caution is out. Bloomquist is stopped down the back with damage on the rear. Bloomquist to the pits and back out.

Lap 17, the green flag waves again. Overton is around Satterlee on the outside in turn 1. He’s looking for the lead. Overton dives inside of Richards in turn 3, the run even off of 4.

Back in turn 3, Overton was going to throw a slider. Richards took a narrower entry than he expected. Overton is off the throttle and jacking the car to the left to avoid contact.

Owens pulls to the infield.

Overton has gathered it back up and set charge to the bumper of Richards. He’s there, Overton slides him in turn 3.

He’s clear.

Lap 33, the leaders race though lapped traffic. Overton is through traffic. He’s opened up a gap to Richards.

Overton wins night 3 at East Bay Raceway Park. It’s his first career win at the Tampa, FL dirt track.

Tomorrow night, the same Tampa, Florida dirt tracks hosts a repeat of tonights show. The dirt late model drivers will race for another $7,000.
