Billy Moyer Jr on running with the Outlaws; Removing JR from his number

Billy Moyer Jr on running the national tour: “It makes you better. So, when you run the big races, you run better.”

For 2018, Billy Moyer Jr returns to the World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series tour. It’s not a new venture, call it a return.

“Last year, we had a sponsor come in, when we didn’t really know at the first of the year,” Billy Moyer Jr tells RacingNews.co. “They wanted me at the Topless 100 back in August. It just didn’t make sense to follow that thing all the way through.”

“I mean, we were 9th which is like 15-20 positions from being 2nd. So, it really wasn’t like we were buried. I mean, we ran 5th the year before and we won 2 races. We won Rookie of the Year that year.”

In 2016, Billy Moyer Jr finished 5th in the WoOLMS standings. That year he collected two WoO wins, six top 5’s and seventeen top 10’s.

“I think we can make the best living doing that. We’ve got Crop Production Services and Mersilla Valley Transportation, both of them are really on-board and let me do this. And I’ve got good crew help and everything.”

“The biggest thing is to just make the best living we can. When you go travel, you race with bigger guys and you run better, it’s more competition. You might not make as much money, at times. But then again, you win one, you win more [money].”

“Or, it makes you better. So, when you run the big races, you run better. I didn’t run very good at the big races last year. That’s because I wasn’t with the big guys, every week. We won like 9 races but we didn’t run very good at The Dream, The World or Wheatland. And Florence, we run like shit.”

21JR

You removed the JR from your number.

“That’s actually — I didn’t even realize it until somebody said that. I had it last year, real small, up in the black. You could just barely see it.”

“Now, hell, we’re 21. So, when dad comes we’ll be 21JR. If we’re on the track, they’ll know which one’s which. If he comes to race, they’ll just score me 21JR.”

I was just wondering if we should be reading into that or not?

“No, but I’m #21. Always been 21. I just had a JR on there so they could tell me and dad apart. Now, he’s slowing down and he’s not going to race as much. So, we’re just #21.”

The first stop of the WoOLMS tour has been rained out. Now, the 2018 World of Outlaws Craftsman Late Model Series season begins tonight at Volusia Speedway Park.
