Denny Hamlin on the Golf/Basketball leagues: “Those positions have been filled.”
In the last seven 1.5 mile races, Denny Hamlin has an average finish of 4th. This week, NASCAR returns to the 1.5 mile track of Atlanta Motor Speedway.
“It’s getting there,” Denny Hamlin told Fox Sports during practice 1. “We spent a lot of time in race trim. We ran 15-16 straight laps there to fire off.”
“I wanted to wait until the track rubbered up. I feel like this track really changes with rubber on the race track.”
Toward the end of practice 1, Denny Hamlin plugged in the qualifying setup. He’s 6th overall at the conclusion of the first practice at Atlanta.
“I’m happy with the speed that we had. Considering we really didn’t work on qualifying. We’ll use the 3 rounds to our advantage and get better as we go.”
Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin had a bit of a fallout at Daytona International Speedway. Contact on track led to comments from Bubba Wallace. Those comments led to a face to face altercation and a twitter rant.
Is it a distraction?
“Really, I just use it as motivation. I’ve always been motivated but it just fires me up more, to be more motivated.”
“I have no issue at all. I’m here to do the best I can to get a great finish this weekend. These little bumps in the road, they really are just little speed bumps. We’re going to keep marching forward and see what we got.”
Denny Hamlin is the host of both a basketball league as well as a golf league. Each league features multiple NASCAR drivers. Bubba Wallace was in both.
This morning Bubba Wallace said he’s in search of a new gold and basketball league.

“Those positions have been filled,” Denny Hamlin says with a smile.
Bubba Wallace sent text to Hamlin after Daytona. He told ESPN that those text went unanswered and he doesn’t expect a reply. He said he was also told that he was removed from the Golf/Basketball leagues and that he had already removed himself anyway.
