Scott Miller discusses the teams that missed qualifying due to inspection

NASCAR VP details inspection issues at Auto Club Speedway

Yesterday, 13 cars failed to make it out of the garage and onto the pit lane. Multiple passes, for multiple cars netted a line at the inspection station.

Instead, 24 cars made it to the track. All they had to do with turn a lap and they would advance to round 2.

Was it multiple issues or the same issue for the majority of the teams?

“Well, the first time through, there was a lot of failures at all of the stations. It was basically kinda split between chassis, weights, measurements and the body scan,” NASCAR Senior VP of Competition, Scott Miller told Fox Sports.

“The second time through, most of it has been centered around the actual body scan itself. Honestly, this is the most aerodynamic track that we’ve gone to.”

“It’s kinda no surprise that they would be pushing the limits here, more than some of the other places. The faster the race track, the more important the aerodynamics are.”

“It’s natural that those limits, when it comes to aerodynamics would be pushed here.”

The drivers who failed pre-qualfying inspection: Denny Hamlin; Clint Bowyer; Aric Almirola; Alex Bowman; William Byron; Daniel Suarez; Chase Elliott; AJ Allmendinger; Jimmie Johnson; Kasey Kahne; Timmy Hill; Ross Chastain; Cole Whitt;

Denny Hamlin will start 25th with brand new tires. As will everyone from 25th on back.
