Kevin Harvick applauds Furniture Row Racing

Kevin Harvick on Furniture Row Racing: “I actually look at their team as being bigger than ours.”

Kevin Harvick and Stewart-Haas Racing have been the dominate combination in the 2018 season. Harvick jumped out of the gate by winning 3 of the first 4 races.

At Auto Club Speedway, Harvick was the favorite to win. He had the fastest car in 5, 10 and 15 lap runs in final practice. However, an early incident with Kyle Larson resulted in impact with the outside wall. That incident ended Harvick’s chance at 4 wins in a row.

Martin Truex Jr capitalized on the opportunity. He went on to put on a dominating show of his own. Truex lapped all but 10 cars at Auto Club Speedway.

A few weeks ago, well before all of this, Harvick spoke on Furniture Row Racing.

“I actually look at their team as being bigger than ours,” Harvick explains to Mobil 1 The Grid. “Because of the fact that they get all their chassis’ and share everything with Joe Gibbs Racing.”

“I would look at it as a 5th team.”

Stewart-Haas Racing is a 4 car operation. In 2018, Furniture Row Racing downsized, bringing just a single car to the race track. However, they have a deep alliance with the 4 car team of Joe Gibbs Racing. Essentially, Joe Gibbs Racing is a 5 car team.

“But, I think when you look at the accomplishments and how far they’ve come. When they started, they were the little engine, for sure. Out in Colorado, trying to do everything themselves.”

“As they got closer to knowing what they wanted to do — In order to reach their capability, they had to merge up with somebody.”

“Basically, they take that product that comes from Joe Gibbs. They take it and make it into their own. They obviously do a good job of getting everything out of the race cars. And whatever they’re doing is working very well.”

Furniture Row Racing did what they all said couldn’t be done. The little team from Denver took home the 2017 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series championship.

Currently, Martin Truex Jr sits at the top of the points sheet for the 2018 season after the dominating win at Auto Club Speedway. However, Harvick leads them in accumulated playoff points. After 5 races, this season looks to be a battle between Truex and Harvick.
