Two dead, four injured following race track shooting

Six people were shot at the Headhunters Racetrack

Over the weekend, there was a shooting on Saturday night at the Headhunters Motor Club Racetrack in Eatonton, Georgia. It happened during the first ‘Shut Up and Race’ event of the new season for the dragstrip.

There was a total of six people shot. Two of the victims died of injuries.

24-year-old Jestin Devonta Dunn, of Sparta and 23-year-old Shurron Deion Havior, of Milledgeville were killed in the shooting.

Each of these men had a semi-automatic handgun at the side of their bodies. The guns were either 9mm or 40 caliber.

The Sheriff didn’t want to say for certain that the two men were shooting at each other. However, he did say, “That’s a distinct possibility.”

“This is still unfolding. This race track had thousands of people in it. And as it seams to all ways be nowadays, nobody ever see’s anything,” Putnam County Sheriff Howard Sills told WMAZ-TV.

“But, we have recovered two weapons. We do know there was a problem between Mr. Dunn and Mr. Havior at their place of work [the day before the shooting]. That’s about all we know.”

“The scene there was more than hectic, shall we say. Just unbelievable, trying to get in there, to start with cause of the crowds. It’s a difficult venue, at all times.”

“There’s no doubt in my mind there was a great deal of indiscriminate gunfire. Based on the number of shell casings that we seen on the ground there.

Both of the men worked at Interfor. The company is a large lumber mill located in Eatonton, GA.

Others injured include: 35-year-old Henry Dorsey who was taken to Navicent Health. 33-year-old Nerocus Peaks, taken to Putnam General Hospital. Zakeriyah Sanders was trasportated to St. Mary’s. The last victim of the shooting was an 8-year-old named Kolluns Turner who was taken to Putnam General Hospital.

Those four victims are expected to make a full recovery. That’s was the sheriff’s investigators have relayed to the office.

This altercation marks the second known shooting at a dragstrip in the last seven months. Previously, there was a shooting in August 2017 at the Great Lakes Dragaway. That incident resulted in the death of 3 people.
