Boyds Speedway results from the The Shamrock featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series on March 23rd, 2018

Tonight, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series invades Ringgold, Georgia. Boyd’s Speedway, the 1/3 mile clay oval hosts another round of the dirt racing touring series.

45 cars are unloading in the pit area ahead of The Shamrock 50 event.

Qualifying – Report
March 23, 2018

Chris Madden set quick time in group A. He’s the overall fast qualifier with a 13.966. There were a lot of variations in the preferred line for the qualifying rounds.

Heat 1 – Report
March 23, 2018

Chris Madden and Ricky Weiss lead the field to the green flag in the first heat race of the night. Green, Madden slides through turn 1. He takes the lead early.

Weiss is coming on strong. Weiss is there. He’s looking for a lane on the bottom. They run bumper to bumper for the lead.

Weiss explores the high side. Madden hears him coming so he moves up a lane. Weiss to the bottom.

They cross again, Weiss pulls alongside but he can’t clear him.

Madden wins the first heat of the night.

Heat 2 – Report
March 23, 2018

Brandon Overton and Kyle Bronson trail the pace truck in heat race number two. Green, Overton gets the jump he leads out of turn 2.

Bobby Pierce is clicking around the bottom. He just powered off turn 2 and took 2nd in turn 3.

Pierce is running down Overton but he’s going to run out of time. Overton wins heat race number two.

Heat 3 – Report
March 23, 2018

Earl Pearson Jr and Hudson O’Neal set the front row in the third heat race. Green, Hudson gets the jump. It’s too good, complete restart.

Green, Hudson O’Neal is even at the flagstand. They head off even into turn 1. O’Neal uses every inch of the track, sliding from the middle to the outside wall. It works, Hudson is still even off turn 2. Hudson O’Neal completes the pass on the outside in turn 3.

Hudson O’Neal drops to the bottom. He wins heat 3 by 4 car lengths.

March 23, 2018

Scott Bloomquist and Tyler Millwood lead the to the start in the final heat race of the night. The point leader, Jonathan Davenport is buried in the second to last row.

Green, Millwood spins the tires and falls to 4th before turn 1. Bloomquist leads by 5 off turn 2. He’s driving away.

Late in the race, Davenport has gone up to the wall with Billy Moyer Jr. Both of them are making up time running inches from the wall.

Main Event – Report
March 23, 2018

4 wide salute and we’re ready for a shot of ‘dirt racing’ right to the veins. Chris Madden and Hudson O’Neal will lead them to the green flag of the 50 lap main event.

Green, Madden leads into turn 1. He pulls a gap of two car lengths off turn two.

Bloomquist battles with Overton for 3rd.

He’s quickly around Hudson for 2nd. Bloomquist mounts a charge for the lead.

Lap 20, Bloomquist is there. Madden starts exploring new lines. Bloomquist is running right through the middle.

Madden drops to the bottom. Bloomquist has a run off turn 2. He’s there, they run side by side down the back.

New leader in turn 3. Scott Bloomquist takes the lead from Madden.

10 to go, Bloomquist leads by 4 car lengths over Madden.

7 to go, Madden is coming back. Earl Pearson Jr is there. He takes 2nd away as the leaders fight through lapped traffic.

3 to go, Bloomquist leads but Pearson is coming.

1 to go, Pearson is there! He looks low in turn 3.

Pearson has the launch off the corner and the momentum. Side by side down the final stretch! Pearson wins is by a nose!

What a race! Pearson passed 4 cars in the final 3 laps!
