Martinsville Truck Race Results – March 26, 2018

Martinsville Speedway results featuring the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in March 2018

The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series kick off the weekend at the paperclip. It’s the first true short track race of the season. Martinsville Speedway is a .526-mile located in Ridgeway, Virginia.

70 laps in stage 1 and 70 more in stage 2. 110 laps in stage 3 will complete the 250 lap event.

The trucks are rolling off pit road while weather is in the area. Ben Rhodes and Matt Crafton will lead the field to the green as snowflakes fall on the speedway.

“It’s slick,” the pole sitter states over the radio.

Stage 1

Green flag, Ben Rhodes gets the jump. A late breaking attempt by Crafton and he’s even with the leader through the middle of turns 1-2. Crafton does it again in turns 3-4, it doesn’t stick. He slides up the track and slots in behind Rhodes.

Noah Gragson is beating on the back bumper of Myatt Snider. Gragson picks up the position and moves into the top 10. This could be a weather shortened race, it’s seams to be early but it’s not, it’s time to go.

Mike Senica has stalled and the caution is out. They’re getting ready to roll but the dark looks significantly darker. “I honestly don’t know why we’re going green right now,” the leader’s radio. They aren’t NASCAR has turned the lights back on.

Lap 23, the race has been red flagged.

/// The race was originally postponed and scheduled to resume Sunday night. That didn’t work as snow filled the speedway. Two days later… ///

It’s the 48 hour truck race at Martinsville. We’re set to resume on a Monday.

Green flag, this time Crafton out-brakes Rhodes into turn 1. He chops to the bottom in the middle of the corner, new leader.

Lap 31, Crafton swings wide off the exit of turn 4. Rhodes holds his truck low and comes off with speed on the bottom. Rhodes is even with Crafton at the line. Rhodes completes the pass in turn 1, back to the lead.

5 to go, Jennifer Jo Cobb has brakes that are on fire! She hits the pit road, no caution. Ben Rhodes leads by 2.5 seconds.

Two days later, Ben Rhodes wins stage 1 at Martinsville Speedway.

Stage 1 Results: 1. Ben Rhodes; 2. Matt Crafton; 3. Grant Enfinger; 4. Johnny Sauter; 5. Kyle Benjamin; 6. John Hunter Nemechek; 7. Stewart Friesen; 8. Noah Gragson; 9. Brett Moffitt; 10. Myatt Snider;

Stage 2

The field hits pit road. The cars were impounded after the red flag on Saturday. This is the first opportunity to make major adjustments on the trucks. Friesen is the first truck off the pit lane, he took two tires and is +6 at the pit exit. Rhodes is first off with four tires, he’ll restart 2nd.

Green, Friesen spun the tires but Rhodes overshot turn 1. They run even off turn 2. Two laps into the run, still side-by-side. Friesen misses the bottom and skates up the track into the door of Rhodes. Ben Rhodes gets the power down a retakes the lead.

Trouble! Friesen was stacking up the field on old tires. Gilliland got into Sauter and Sauter went up the hill and clipped Friesen. Friesen spins and the field hits a parking lot, several trucks with damage. Friesen will be held for two laps, too many men over the wall.

Green, Gilliland and Rhodes are side-by-side into turn 1. He’s nearly clear on the outside of turn 4. They rub slightly. Rhodes wins the battle.

24 to go in stage 2, Gilliland is catching Rhodes, inch by inch. Caution, Tyler Matthews has backed it into the fence. Matthews threw a block, Friesen used the bumper, Matthews was turned. Most of the leader elect not to pit.

Green, Rhodes is clear off turn 2. Gilliland took an easy entry but he comes off the corner with a bunch of momentum. Gilliland looks low, Rhodes throws a block. Gilliland goes high instead, Rhodes maintains the lead.

Sauter is making a late charge to the front. He just moved around Crafton with a pass to the outside. At the front, Ben Rhodes clicks off to the win in stage 2 at Martinsville.

Stage 2 Results: 1. Ben Rhodes; 2. Todd Gilliland; 3. Johnny Sauter; 4. Matt Crafton; 5. John Hunter Nemechek; 6. Brett Moffitt; 7. Noah Gragson; 8. Grant Enfinger; 9. Myatt Snider; 10. Harrison Burton;

Stage 3

The field hits the pit lane. A whole bunch of trucks take two tires. Austin Hill took 0 tires. Crafton exits in 9th. Rhodes has a whole bunch of issues on his stop, he will restart 15th. Benjamin and Sargeant stay out.

Green, Kyle Benjamin gets the jump, he’s clear before turn 1. They’re 3 wide behind them as Gilliland is charging back to the front.

Lap 159, Fontaine and Matthews have tangled. The caution is out.

Green,  Benjamin leads on the bottom. He holds off Enfinger and Gilliland.

64 to go, Enfinger is backing up to Gilliland. Enfinger throws a block, Gilliland puts the bumper to him but he holds the position. There’s a train behind them. He’s threw. Moffitt puts the bumper to Enfinger, Nemechek puts the bumper to Moffitt. Nemechek is bu both of them. Benjamin leads by 2 seconds.

37 to go, Gilliland is running down Benjamin. However, the caution is out for an exhaust pipe in turn 3.

The leaders stay out, Moffitt pits from 7th for new tires. Crafton, Gragson, Rhodes and everybody behind follows.

Green, Benjamin washes off the bottom all by himself in turn 1. He pushes Gilliland up the hill. The bottom is open for 3rd place runner Nemechek, he fills the hole quickly. They run off turn 3, three wide for the lead.

Benjamin puts the #4 into the wall down the front stretch. They all continue. Enfinger moves around both of them, he runs 2nd.

Lap 27, Sauter has lost power off turn 2. Crafton was coming, full on the throttle pedal. He gets into the back of Sauter, heavy nose damage. The caution is out.

Green, 21 to go, Nemechek gets the jump. The fight hard for 2nd on back. Moffitt is through to 4th. Four new tires is up to 4th.

17 to go, the caution is out for Robby Lyons. This caution plays right into the hands of Moffitt. His tires are 70 laps newer than Nemechek’s and 100 laps newer than Benjamin. Gilliland pits from 2nd! Move Moffitt up to 3rd.

Green, 12 to go, head to head restart for the front row. They run side by side for the lead. Caution, Reid Wilson is around. This is now going to be a 7 lap shootout.

Green, side-by-side at the front. Nemechek wins the battle off turn 4 and Benjamin cuts to the bottom, he holds onto 2nd. There’s a gap back to Moffitt.

3 to go, Benjamin has pulled to the bumper of Nemechek. He’s there, bumper to bumper at Martinsville.

1 to go, Benjamin slides the back end off turn 4. They head into turn 1, Benjamin makes up all the lost ground. He puts the bumper to Nemechek in turn 3. Nemechek is sideways but he’s still in the gas.

They cross the line side by side, Nemechek wins by half a car length!
