Track officials ran the tire dragon ahead of this weekend. This time around, they spent a bulk of their time working in the middle groove.

However, bottom feeding is the name of the game at the new Texas Motor Speedway. Every driver in the field is glued to the white line in both turns.

With 30 minutes remaining in the session, Clint Bowyer sits at the top of the board. He ended a 190-race winless streak streak at Martinsville Speedway two weeks prior.

30 minutes remain: 1. Clint Boyer (27.881); 2. Ryan Blaney (27.927); 3. Ryan Newman (27.768); 4. Chase Elliott (28.004); 5. Kyle Busch (28.008);

William Byron is sitting in the garage area. An engine change is underway. “We needed track time,” Byron states to FS1.

The speed is drastically increasing on the track. One car after the next is finding the top of the board. Harvick sits 5th, he’s fighting a loose condition off turn 4.

“The track gets faster every time you go out. It’s hard to decipher what to change,” Joey Logano says with 17 minutes remaining in the session. He’s 25th as teammate Brad Keselowski leads the session.

11 minutes to go, Kyle Busch jumps his arch-nemesis on the timing sheet. Busch to the top.

7 minutes to go, Kevin Harvick returns to the top of the board. The loose condition off turn 4 has been corrected.

4 minutes to go, the track record holder sits at the top of the board. Kurt Busch leads practice and places Stewart-Haas in 1st and 2nd.

Kurt Busch wins practice. Stewart-Haas machines are 1st, 2nd and 3rd on the Texas Motor Speedway practice sheet.

“The car’s capable of the pole,” Kurt Busch says following practice.
