Sam Hafertepe Jr is excited to race near his hometown

Defending race winner Sam Hafertepe Jr is local to the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track

This weekend, Sam Hafertepe Jr is racing at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track. As NASCAR runs the 1-5-mile Tony Stewart is presenting the TexasSprint Car Nationals.

Sam is the defending race winner of the event. He’s also the defending Lucas Oil ASCS National Champion.

This is a huge race for Sam Hafertepe Jr. It also happens to be somewhat of a local race. The driver is from Sunnyvale, TX which is about 40 minutes outside of Fort Worth, Texas.

Do anticipate people coming that you haven’t seen in awhile because it’s close to where you grew up?

“Yeah, you know, it’s funny you asked that,” Sam Hafertepe Jr responds from the Texas Motor Speedway media center ahead of last night’s preliminary rounds.

“I got a message in Facebook a week or two ago. Kids that I went to high school with — You know, with what we do, you travel so much that you lose a lot of friendships from those days.”

Hafertepe has 58 races on his 2018 tour. His trailer will tour the entire country from Tampa, Florida to Burlington, Washington and everywhere in the middle bits.

“They asked me, ‘Hey, would I be able to come out and watch you?’ It’s pretty neat to see that happen. I’ll have people like that show up.

“My core following from this area might be 15-30 people. So, I expect to see a lot of those people. It will be great, for everybody.”

Tony Stewart hears this…

“He’s got more than 15 or 30 people, trust me,” Stewart adds.

Last night, Sam Hafertepe Jr finished 2nd to Seth Bergman. Tonight, the dirt sprint cars will run the main event. The Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track is a 4/10-mile dirt oval. The race is sanctioned by the Lucas Oil ASCS and promoted by Tony Stewart.
