Texas Motor Speedway: Results – April 8, 2018 – NASCAR Cup Series

Texas Motor Speedway race results from April 8th, 2018 featuring the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series

Today, NASCAR goes racing at Texas Motor Speedway. The 1.44-mile track has been recently repaved and the track has been lightning fast ever since. Until it gets rubbered in, it’s a race to the bottom lane.

85 laps in stage 1, 85 more in stage 2 and 164 laps in stage 3 will complete the 334 lap race. It’s the O’Reilly Auto Parts 500 featuring 501 miles of stock race racing.

Kurt Busch and Kevin Harvick will lead the field to the green flag. pole sitter Kurt Busch has selected the outside line. Kyle Larson has been regulated to the tail of the field after failing inspection 3 times.

Stage 1
Texas Motor Speedway

Green, Busch drives it deep into turn 1 on the outside. He noses ahead but Busch can’t get back to the gas, he overshot the corner.

Harvick is hard on the gas early on the bottom. He evaporates the gap and has a run off the corner. Busch gets loose on the outside in turn 3. Harvick takes the lead and Busch has lost several positions.

As the leader crossed the line to complete lap 1, there’s a spinner in the back. Alex Bowman wiggled on and off the inside line in turn 4 as Bubba Wallace was close to his rear bumper. He finally lost it in front of the field. Bowman, Paul Menard, Daniel Suarez, Ross Chastain and others collected minor damage as the #88 spun like a top just before the tri-oval.

Green, Harvick clears Hamlin before turn 1. Clint Bowyer gets loose under Hamlin. He skates up the track and narrowly misses Hamlin. Bowyer falls to 5th.

Lap 20, Kyle Larson is up to 18th. He started at the tail following a pre-race inspection penalty.

Lap 41, Martin Truex Jr is on the pit road. This is an early stop but Kasey Kahne and Kyle Larson elect to try the same strategy. Lap 44, Harvick pits from the lead. Blaney has been handed a pass-through penalty for an uncontrolled tire.

Lap 54, Denny Hamlin is the only car left on the race track. As of now, the entire field is a lap down. Denny Hamlin is currently the only car on the lead lap. Lap 56, Hamlin is in and the lead is handed back to Harvick. Denny Hamlin has been handed a speeding penalty.

10 laps to go in stage 1, Kevin Harvick leads Truex by over 10 seconds.

5 to go, trouble for the 2nd place runner of Martin Truex Jr! The car has been junked against the outside wall. Truex blew a tire coming off turn 4.

Kevin Harvick wins stage 1 under caution.

The field hits the pit lane. +1 for Kyle Busch and -1 for Harvick. Busch will lead them to restart.

Green, Busch is clear into turn 1 on the outside.

Larson clears Harvick on the outside for 2nd but Harvick gets back to the power on exit. Larson can’t get to the bottom in turn 3. He finally chops in front of Logano and settles in 5th.

Lap 127, Kyle Larson is in the wall! He charged from the tail and almost took the lead a few laps ago. Now he’s in the wall while running 4th. He lost a right front tire into turn 1.

The field hits the pit road. Harvick came in 2nd and he’s out in 10th. A lug nut flew into the jack and prevented lift on the left side. Kurt Busch is +2 and he’s first to the pit exit. Kurt and Kyle Busch will lead them to green.

“With a little brotherly love and some cooperation, everybody should be able to get along here,” Kurt Busch radio.

Green, Kurt Busch noses ahead into turn 1 on the outside. Kyle Busch lifts a tad early and Kurt Busch drops to the bottom. Harvick has retuned to pit road. It’s a green flag stop for a loose wheel. Blaney has a loose wheel as well. Blaney pits from 4th.

10 to go in stage 2, Kurt Busch leads over Kyle Busch by 0.4 seconds.

4 to go, Kyle Busch is there! He closed the gap in the blink of an eye as Kurt was stuck behind a lapper. Kyle is under his brother off turn 4. Kurt Busch fights back in turn 1. Kyle Busch swings around the outside in turn 3. Great racing!

Kyle Busch wins stage 2 at Texas Motor Speedway!

The field hits the pit lane. Erik Jones is first off the pit lane. +3 for Jones and -1 for Kyle Busch.

Green, Busch checks up early to let his teammate to the bottom. Busch gets loose under Chase Elliott. The split Kyle Busch 3 wide. Busch and Almirola are 3 wide heading into turn 3. Almirola checks up, Hamlin gets loose under Almirola. Hamlin chases it up the hill and Almirola makes contact with the wall as Hamlin loops it.

“The #9 is done,” Kyle Busch radio.

Big crash in turn turn 4. Those involved: Hamlin, Almirola, Bayne, Johnson, Keselowski and Dillon. The red flag is out at lap 180.

Green, Jones is clear before turn 1. Chase Elliott gets loose on the bottom. Kurt Busch sweeps around the outside to take over 2nd.

108 to go, Harvick and Elliott are fighting to be the first car 1 lap down. Harvick has nearly recovered from the loose wheel.

104 to go, the pit cycle has begun. Kyle Busch and Logano are in. 102 to go, Jones is in. Kurt Busch assumes the lead. Kurt pits the next lap and passes the lead to Byron. 101 to go, Byron pits and the lead has cycled back to Erik Jones.

100 to go, the caution is out for Paul Menard. Kevin Harvick didn’t pit! He’s running 2nd. Uncontrolled tire for Harvick on pit road. It’s not going to matter much as he’ll restart at the back anyway.

Green, it looks like Jones spun his tires on the launch. Advantage to Kyle Busch, he leads into turn 1.

85 to go, Kasey Kahne and Trevor Bayne make contact while racing to be the first car 1 lap down. They both spin through the infield grass. Kahne gets loose under Bayne and chases it up the hill. No damage to either car.

The first 4 cars remain on the track, 6 total. Logano is the first car to pit for new tires. Elliott and Harvick follow.

Green, Kyle Busch wins the race into turn 1. Kurt Busch gets loose under Jones and creates a roadblock for Bowyer. McMurray to 2nd. Stenhouse is racing Harvick for 7th. Stenhouse slips out of the groove, he runs out of race track at the exit. He scrapes the wall but continues.

58 to go, Harvick is up to 3rd. He sweeps under McMurray for 2nd. Kyle Busch leads by 3 seconds as we approach the final round of pit stops.

45 to go, Kyle Busch leads Harvick by 1.4 seconds. Harvick’s tires are 20 laps fresher than the leader.

44 to go, Busch and Harvick hit the pit lane at the same time. Harvick had more life on his tires. The team elected to pit early. NASCAR is reviewing the stop of Harvick. They had a tire roll out a few feet into pit lane. No penalty.

35 to go, Ricky Stenhouse Jr leads Newman and Wallace Jr. Kyle Busch runs 4th with Harvick a full second behind him.

31 to go, Ryan Newman has blown a tire in the second portion of the tri-oval. He slams the wall and the caution is out. This will trap most of the field a lap down. 4 cars are on the lead lap. Stenhouse, Wallace and McMurray hit the pit lane. Everyone else stays out to collect the free pass. Kyle Busch will restart from the lead with Harvick alongside. Stenhouse will have 10 laps fresher tires than the leader in 3rd.

Green, Kyle Busch gets the jump. Harvick slots in behind him. Stenhouse has no brakes, he’s falling through the field.

18 to go, Harvick’s frontend washes up the hill in turn 1. It doesn’t turn and Kyle Busch gains 10 car lengths. The gap is now 0.7 seconds.

8 to go, the gap is now 0.4 seconds. McMurray is 5 seconds behind in 3rd.
