Bubba Wallace is confused following Bristol Motor Speedway

Wallace had the fastest car in the field and led laps with just over 100 laps to go; Finished 16th

Bubba Wallace was on fire with about 175 laps to go at Bristol Motor Speedway. The #43 mounted a charge to the front. His front bumper was all over any car in front of him. He found himself 3 wide with fire in his eyes.

Wallace installed the bump and run all the way to the top spot on the scoring board. He put the shiny STP #43 car in the P1 position at Bristol Motor Speedway. It wasn’t on an alternative pit strategy. Wallace legitimately had the fastest car in the field at that point.

However, as soon as go got there, the #43 machine began to fade. After leading just 6 laps, Kyle Busch worked back around Bubba Wallace. In the last 100 laps of the race, Wallace faded through the field. He left the .5-mile track with a 16th place run.

How did that happen?

“You guys give me a lot of praise for being real and being myself. I try to carry that out 24/7. So, I figured I’d give it to you raw,” Bubba Wallace opens from his bus after the race at Bristol.

“Devastated. Absolutely devastated. I don’t know what happened. I have no idea.”

“My guys gave me an absolute great car. We went up there and led our first laps in a Cup race. And holy shit, I don’t know what went wrong. My mind’s like a thousand miles per hour right now just trying to figure out what in the hell went wrong.”

“But, it just shows the hard work that we’re doing. Small team, making big gains. That’s what we need. Going up there and passing for the lead, fun stuff. I was pumped.”

“We went from leading the race to probably the absolute worst car out there. I thought we’d walk away with a solid top 10, maybe a top 5. I guess it just wasn’t meant to be.”

“It’s frustrating. But, that’s how it goes. It’s big time auto racing.”

“It was good seeing the #43 back up front, leading some laps and doing good things.”

“Devastated. Dejected. Defeated.”

Next week, NASCRA heads to another short track. Richard Pretty Motorsports will unload at Richmond Raceway.
