Kyle Larson expects the All-Star package to make it more exciting for fans

Kyle Larson: “NASCAR’s always trying to please the fans. I think this is a step to make the race come across as more exciting.”

A brand new 1.5-mile aero package will be introduced to the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series in the NASCAR All-Star race. Charlotte Motor Speedway will essentially conduct a test on behalf of all 1.5-mile tracks.

This is a similar package that the NASCAR Xfinity Series tested at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2017. Kyle Larson wasn’t in that race. But, he liked what he saw.

“I felt like at Indy last year the racing, on TV, came across better,” Kyle Larson says in the media center.

“I think it will have the same effect, probably, for the Cup Series at Charlotte.”

“I don’t think it will be any more exciting for us in the seat because it will be a lot slower. But, I think it will come across on TV and in the grandstands, a lot better.”

“NASCAR’s always trying to please the fans. I think this is a step to make the race come across as more exciting.”

In previous seasons, NASCAR has tested multiple things that have gone into effect across the board. Double-file restarts and stage racing were both introduced via the Charlotte All-Star event.

Last year, they tested two tire compounds for the race. That one didn’t exactly work out as planned. Alternative tire compounds will not be in use for 2018.

The 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series All-Star Race will run on May 19th, 2018 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
