Tonight, the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series continues their bullring swing. The 1/5-mile oval billed as ‘Might Macon Speedway’ is set to feature action packed late model racing.

Last night, Bobby Pierce returned to victory lane. It was his first win of 2018 and his first with the new team. Tonight, he unloads at another familiar track.
20 minutes before hot laps and there’s 25 cars in the pit lane. 24 are suppose to start the main event. As of now, only 1 will likely go home early.

Mason Zeigler and Kolby have tangled in hot laps. Both cars have major body damage. Zeigler was able to continue and finish the session.

There’s only 1 group for qualifying tonight. Josh Richards tops them all. He’s the defending winner of the event.
Heat 1 – Report

Josh Richards and Shannon Babb will lead then to the start in the first heat race of the night.
Green, they head into turn 1. Richards noses ahead on the bottom. Babb is on the gas around the top. He comes off turn 2 with the momentum. Babb to the lead down the back!
Zeigler is around. No caution.
Babb opened up a gap early but Richards is closing. Richards looks low in turn 3. He can’t outrun the momentum around the top.

Jimmy Owens and Bobby Pierce trail the pace truck in heat race number two. Green, Pierce, Lanigan and Owens head 3 wide through the middle of turns 1-2. Pierce gets the run off the top.
Pierce checks out. He wins heat race number two.
Heat 3 – Report

Jonathan Davenport and Ryan Unzicker set row 1 in the third and final heat race of the night. Green, Davenport looks low in turn 1. He tried to slide him, not clear. Unzicker is hard on the gas and holding the position off turn 2.
Davenport is all over the rear bumper of the leader as they come back around 11 seconds later. Bronson runs 3rd, he’s scraping the wall off turn 4.
Davenport is looking for a way by. Davenport dives to the bottom in turn 1, he’s clear. That’s the first pass for the lead tonight. Davenport opens up a gap of 5 car lengths in a hurry.
Davenport checks out to win the third and final heat race of the night.

Main Event – Report
March 28, 2018
Shannon Babb and Bobby Pierce will lead them to the start at Macon Speedway. 4 wide salute and we’re going green for a 100 lap main event.
Green flag, Babb noses ahead at the line and he dives it in on the bottom in turn 1. He’s got a 1/2 car length on Pierce at the entry. Pierce is on the gas and powering around the top.
Pierce wins the race off turn 2.
Pierce begins to check out. By lap 8, he’s in lap traffic. Babb looks content on the bottom. As soon as I write that, Babb jumps to the top. Richards dives to the bottom. They run side by side for 2nd.
Lap 11, the caution is out. The lead gap is gone.
Green, Pierce leads. Babb and Richards continue to battle for 2nd. Babb wins the battle. Unzicker is around Richards.
Lap 23, the caution is back out. This time it’s for Hudson O’Neal.
Green, Pierce leads by a car length into turn 1. Hudson O’Neal slaps the wall in turn 1, he bounces off it and continues.
Lap 31, Caution is back out for debris. A wheel cover was stuck in the cushion.
Green, Pierce jumps out and stretches his lead once more. Unzicker is glued to the bottom and looking for a way around Babb. He cant get the drive off the bottom to complete the pass.
Caution is back out. Kyle Bronson has stopped in turn 1 with a flat tire.
Green, Pierce runs away.
Lap 49, Pierce is all over the back of Feger. Babb is closing. Babb looks low. Pierce swaps lanes and blocks the charge.
Unzicker sticks his nose in the battle. They run 3 wide for the lead! Unzicker comes out with 2nd. Babb back to 3rd.
Greg Kimmons does a 360 through the infield. He’s back on the throttle and back at them.
Lap 64, Brian Shirley jumped the cushion in turn 2. He’s slow against the outside wall and the caution is out. Bloomquist to the pits.
Green, Pierce with the lead. Babb looks low, Unzicker looks high on Babb. Babb slides through the middle of turn 1. As he struggles for traction, Unzicker drives around on the outside.
Lap 90, Pierce is stuck behind Zeigler. Zeigler tags the wall in turn 2. Pierce checks up and Unzicker looks low! Pierce dives to the bottom in turn 3. Pierce holds the lead.
2 to go, Pierce has caught more lapped traffic. 1 to go, Unzicker is there. Unzicker dives to the bottom in turn 3! He noses ahead through the middle of the last corner but Pierce is on the throttle around the top.
Pierce holds the lead off turn 4 and wins at Macon Speedway!
