NASCAR issues substance abuse policy penalty

In 2015-2016, Spencer Gallagher ran the full season in the NASCAR Truck Series. He picked up 6 top-10’s with a best finish of 2nd in 2015. In 2016, he picked up 8 top-10’s again with a best finish of 2nd.

For 2017, GMS Racing moved into the NASCAR Xfinity Series. Gallagher picked up only 1 top-10 in his first full-time season in the new series. However, in the 9 races so far this season, Gallagher has already collected 5 top-10 finishes.

He’s been trending in the correct direction. That point was amplified on Saturday as Gallagher went to victory lane at Talladega Superspeedway.

He did is on his family owner outfit. The team is owned by Maury Gallagher, the CEO and Chairman, Allegiant Travel Company.

Gallagher currently sits 7th in the NASCAR Xfinity Series point standings. He was also eligible for the playoffs with his win over the weekend. That eligibility has been rescinded.

However, after the win, Gallagher has failed the standard drug test which will pull his from the car until the drug rehab program is complete and the driver is cleared by NASCAR to return to the sport.

NASCAR issued the following statement just moments ago…
