Dover International Speedway qualifying results from May 4, 2018 featuring the NASCAR Cup Series
Today, they’ll set the grid for Sunday’s race at the 1 mile concrete oval. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series invades the Monster Mile in Dover, Delaware.

Round 1 – Report
15 minutes in round 1. 24 cars will advance to round 2. The track has sat for 35 minutes between Cup qualifying and Xfinity practice. Most teams will wait it out for the first few minutes as a result.
Derrike Cope is the first car on the track. 24.844 for Cope.
10 minutes remain, only two cars have turned a lap.
Harvick heads out on track. Top of the board for Harvick. 5 minutes remain, only 8 cars have turned a lap. But, it’s getting busy in a hurry. Truex hits the track, he jumps to the top of the board.
3 minutes remain, Brad Keselowski to the top with a 22.947. Kyle Busch tops that moments later, 22.913.
Kyle Busch wins round 1 at Dover.
Kasey Kahne and Ryan Newman were tied at the 24th position with a 23.306. They ran identical 2nd laps as well at 23.508. Newman will advance due to owner points.

Round 2 – Report
10 minutes in round 2. The track is busy right away. Kyle Larson is the first car on the track. 22.867 for Larson, that’s the fastest time so far.
4 minutes remain, Chase Elliott sits 2nd. Kyle Busch, the round 1 winner sits 6th.
0:36 seconds remain, Bowman is just now pulling off the pit stall. He doesn’t get to the line in time. He missed it by about a second.

Aric Almirola is bumped from the final round. He’s the only Stewart-Haas Racing car that doesn’t advance to the final round.

Round 3 – Report
It’s a short 5 minute session in the third and final round at Dover International Speedway. 12 drivers are set to run for the pole position.
The session is green, 4 cars are hit the track at once. Ricky Stenhouse Jr is the first car to set a time. Stenhouse circles Dover at 22.929.
Kyle Larson just ran his fastest lap of the day at 22.770. He ran higher than anyone so far and carried momentum all the way to the line.
Kyle Larson’s time gets it down. He’ll lead them to the green flag on Sunday afternoon.
