Bobby Pierce discusses the Illinois sweep at Tri-City and Macon

Dunn-Benson Motorsports debuts #1 paint scheme, switching numbers for the special event this weekend as a tribute to Big C

For 2018, Pierce made the move to North Carolina. He was signed to drive for Dunn-Benson Motorsports and pilot their Rocket Chassis machines full-time on the national dirt late model scene.

Recently, Bobby Pierce swung to his home state of Illinois with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series. He swept the weekend, winning at both Tri-City Speedway and Macon Speedway.

Before that, Pierce had a best finish of 5th in the 2018 LOLMDS campaign. That came back in February at East Bay Raceway Park.

2 wins in a row. What was it? Was it the tracks? The familiarity with the tracks?

“The race tracks we went to definitely helped. But, I think we’re just getting better and better every weekend,” Bobby Pierce told RacingNews.co .

“Just figuring out these cars and what I need with them. I don’t know, going there, those were tracks that I’ve got a lot of laps on. Well, Tri-City anyways.”

“A lot of these places we go to are somewhat new. Qualifying is the biggest thing throughout the night. When you get a good qualifying run and start up front, the night’s just a whole lot easier.”

“Going to all these places that I’m not that familiar with — It all starts in qualifying. By the end of the night. You know, you run the feature and you’re like, ‘Alright, now I’m ready to qualify.’ But, the night’s already over. You don’t go back there until next year.”

“I think the track definitely helped a lot. It’s kinda more natural to me. We’re just figuring it out more and more. I think we’re just getting better with every race.”

You mentioned that you struggled in hot laps. What I was thinking was you went into that race looking for a certain feeling. You knew exactly what you were looking for, probably. So, maybe that helped you find a balance in the car. Or no?

“In hot laps, I was pretty worried because we weren’t good. A lot of that was just that I was pushing really bad in one corner. I don’t know if it was a little slimy there or what.”

“Then, the rest of the night — I went out there for qualifying and it turned great. It had traction. I was like, ‘Alright, we got a great race car for tonight.’ ”

“Starting on the pole that feature, definitely helped out a lot. Because the track wasn’t very racy at all. But, just knowing that place. I have the most laps there than probably anywhere, next to Farmer City. That was somewhat like my local track growing up, even though it’s 3.5 hours from the house.”

“In hot laps, I don’t know, I wasn’t good. I was like, ‘Oh boy, we’re gonna be in trouble.’ Then it turned around. So, it just all worked out.”

Fayetteville

This weekend’s event located in Fayetteville, NC is just 30 minutes from the Dunn Benson Ford Dealership and the Dunn Benson Motorsports Race Shop which was owned by the late Carlton Lamm and his son Kemp Lamm. Mr. Lamm at one time many years ago owned Fayetteville Motor Speedway and later in life became a huge supporter of FMS while sponsoring many events, racers and a friend to so many people that raced and attended the facility.

“With the track honoring Mr. Lamm at this weekend’s event, we decided to display the car #1 back on the car for this special event. Mr. Lamm loved Red and he loved the number 1 on his cars, so we will run a Red #1 during this weekend’s events at Fayetteville Motor Speedway to honor the entire Lamm Family,” stated Wayne Castleberry, Marketing and PR Director for Dunn Benson Motorsports.

“Special thanks to all our sponsors that agreed to allow us to go back to the #1 for this event. We hope all our fans can attend this weekend and cheer for the famous #1 again for this special event.”
