Jimmy Mars captures first two wins of 2018

Dirt Late Model driver puts the #28 back in victory lane, twice

(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) In only his second weekend of the racing season, Jimmy Mars picked up two feature wins on May 4-5 behind the wheel of his father-in-law Paul Gilberts #28 MB Customs entry!

On Friday night at his hometown Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin, Jimmy ran second in his heat race and later started the weekly A-Main from the outside of the third row. He then worked his way to the front and grabbed the top spot in the middle stages of the race to bag his first feature win of 2018 over Darrell Nelson, Jesse Glenz, Mike Prochnow, and Michael Keller!

At Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, Minnesota on Saturday evening, the WISSOTA Challenge Series opened up their 2018 campaign and 25 competitors piled into the pit area. Jimmy once again finished second in heat race action prior to rolling off from the inside of the third row in the 40-lap headliner. The Menomonie native and 2018 National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame Inductee then raced to the lead and pocketed a $3,000 payday for besting Jake Redetzke, Jeff Wildung, Pat Doar, and Jesse Glenz!

“It’s kind of a collaborative deal that Paul (Gilberts) and I have going and it’s working out really well,” quoted Mars earlier this week via telephone.

“When I get the opportunity to race around home, I know Paul’s going to put me in great equipment. We were able to get the job done at both Red Cedar and Ogilvie over the weekend and had a pretty good car each night. I have to thank Paul and all of our great sponsors for all of their support and we will try to have another strong weekend in Illinois!”

Jimmy will return to Super Late Model competition over the May 11-12 weekend, as his #28 team will venture south to the Land of Lincoln for a pair of $10,000 to win showdowns, which will be co-sanctioned by the MARS Racing Series and the American Late Model Series (ALMS). Up first on Friday night will be the ‘Farmer City 74’ at Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois. The doubleheader will then conclude on Saturday evening with the 4th edition of ‘FALS Frenzy’ at Fairbury American Legion Speedway in downtown Fairbury, Illinois.
