Clint Bowyer comments after failing to qualify at his home race

Bowyer, Kenseth, Kahne and more fail to make it through qualifying inspection

As qualifying was set to get underway at Kansas Speedway, 12 cars were stuck in pre-qualifying inspection. 1 by 1 they went through the tent, many were forced to start the process all over.

For Clint Bowyer, it was a conveyor belt at the inspection tent. As time expired in round 1, Clint Bowyer didn’t get to touch the track.

Cars that failed to make it through inspection: Matt Kenseth; Clint Bowyer; Kasey Kahne; Michael McDowell; Timmy Hill

Clint Bowyer was 5th quickest in the 1 and only practice session at Kansas earlier today. Kansas is the home race for Bowyer, a track he’s never won at. For 2018, Stewart-Haas Racing has the cars to beat and this is a good opportunity for Bowyer to win at his home race.

But, he’ll have to do it from the tail on Saturday night.

“Well, I guess Matt Kenseth’s big debut of getting back on the race track probably isn’t very good either. But, me being at home, that was a pretty good story,” Clint Bowyer told FS1.

“Naw, we’re stuck back there in jail. I don’t know. It’s a pretty bad taste in my mouth right now. It’s hard not to go off because it’s frustrating.”

“You’re sitting there watching guys. The body was off. Made some adjustments, went back through then the chassis’ off.”

“I watched them. They didn’t even jack it up. They didn’t even do anything. They just pushed it in here then back over there. Body was good and then the chassis’ off.”

“It’s just super frustrating to be able to not get on the track. Everybody’s got a job to do. NASCAR’s got a job to do. It’s difficult to regulate and govern, the sanctioning body and everybody on a fair level playing field.”

“But, I don’t think this is the answer either. This doesn’t look very good.”
