Kansas Starting Lineup: NASCAR Cup Series

Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series qualifying results from Kansas Speedway on May 11, 2018

Qualifying at Kansas Speedway is set to begin. Earlier today, the NASCAR Cup Series had a single practice session. That’s all they got for the entire weekend.

On top of practices being combined, 25 minutes were also removed as NASCAR fixed an issue with the track. They had to drill and cut holes in the surface to drain water that was pressurized under the banking.

Matt Kenseth is set to make his debut for 2018. He didn’t run a single qualifying run in practice, his focus was race trim. However, the team will have notes to point him in the right direction tonight.

Round 1
Kansas Speedway

They’re set to go green in round 1. However, 12 cars still haven’t

“I think we’re back here in dooms day right now. Hopefully, we’ll get out,” Clint Bowyer tells FS1 as he points to his car in the inspection line.

15 minutes in round 1 are underway. Harvick has cleared inspection just as they drop the green flag on the session. 10 cars have still yet to clear inspection.

5 minutes remain, Jimmie Johnson has cleared inspection. However, the crew has the hood up, the deck lid up and the thing is jacked up. There’s taking off the inspection plates in a rush.

3 minutes remain, Ryan Blaney sits at the top of the board.

30 seconds remain, Matt Kenseth has cleared inspection. He does not make it to the track on time to qualify.  Matt Kenseth, Clint Bowyer, Kasey Kahne, Michael McDowell and Timmy Hill all failed to make it through inspection.

“You’re sitting there watching guys. The body was off. Made some adjustments, went back through then the chassis’ off,” Clint Bowyer stated.

10 minutes in round 2.
