Kansas Speedway

Green, the entire inside line gets the jump on the outside. I think Blaney might have been caught sleeping a bit there. Harvick pulls Busch alongside Blaney into turn 1. Blaney fights back on the outside to hold 2nd as Harvick leads by a full second on lap 3.

Lap 4, Larson and Clint Bowyer were two of the cars that didn’t make it through inspection. Larson is up to 19th and Bowyer is up to 20th. There tires are stickers, as they didn’t get to turn any laps in qualifying.

Lap 19, Kyle Larson has cracked the top 10. He’s rolling by the entire field from lane 3 on the race track.

Lap 28, Matt Kenseth has just gone a lap down while running 28th. “The car’s underivable right now,” Kenseth radio.

Lap 30, the competition caution is out. Larson climbed to 9th.

Kevin Harvick has a slow stop. William Byron takes two tire, he’s first off the pit lane, Blaney is off 2nd with 4 tires, Harvick 3rd. Scratch that, William Byron’s crew member dropped a tire. That’s a violation. Uncontrolled tire, Byron to the back.

Green, Harvick spins the tires a bit. Blaney wins the race into turn 1 by a car length.

Lap 53, Blaney leads by 1.5 seconds. Harvick thought he had a flat tire.

10 laps to go in stage 1, Harvick has been chipping away at Blaney. The leader is now deep in lap traffic and Harvick is there.

3 to go, Harvick dives to the inside in turn 1. He doesn’t clear him, Blaney powers by on the outside.  2 to go, same thing, Harvick barely lifts from minor wheel spin off turn 4. Without that, he would have cleared him.

Blaney holds on to win stage 1.

However, Larson is all over Harvick for the lead. Larson looks high in turns 1-2. Harvick pulls ahead by 4 car lengths on the bottom but Larson is in the gas and coming head around the top. He’s got a run off turn 2, Larson pulls to the inside down the back. Harvick thinks about throwing the block, he doesn’t. Larson completes the pass in turn 3. From the back to the front in 130 laps.

10 to go, Harvick is again running down the leader at the end of the stage. The sun has now fallen completely out of the sky. The track has changed.

Stage 3
Kansas Speedway

The field hits the pit lane. Larson is first in and first off. Harvick will restart 2nd.

Green, Larson gets the jump with a push from Ryan Blaney. Blaney has a peek at the middle, he cuts back across the rear bumper of Larson. This jacks Larson’s tires off the ground a bit as the bumpers hooked. Larson is still going forward, he leads Harvick off turn 2.

54 laps to go, green flag pit stops are underway. Harvick and Larson pit at the same time.

41 to go, Stenhouse was still on the track. He finally comes to the pit lane and hands the lead back to Kyle Larson.

Larson is running right against the outside wall. It’s like we’re at Homestead.

31 to go, the caution is out.Suarez got loose off turn 2. He went up the hill, bounced off the wall, back off and collected Bowman.

The field hits the pit lane. Larson is first in and first off. Harvick is off 2nd.

Green, Blaney is all over the rear bumper of Larson. Nose to tail into turn 1. Harvick is on the gas on the outside lane. That sucks around the rear end of Blaney as Harvick sweeps by. Blaney skates up the hill.

Harvick is looking high on Larson off turn 2. Harvick fills the hole! Larson dives hard on the bottom in turn 3. It’s not enough. Harvick comes by with momentum around the top. They bang fenders at the start finish line. Harvick takes the lead.

20 to go, Trouble! Blaney and Larson are in trouble. Blaney was trying to force Larson to run high through the tri-oval. Larson pushed him back down closer to the racing groove. They made contact. Blaney gets a flat right front tire and slams the wall in turn 1. The caution is out.

“He can only run me up so high,” Larson radio.

Byron takes 2 tires. Harvick takes 4 and wins the race off pit road of the 4 tire takers. Many cars stay out. Larson leads them to green, Byron restarts 7th.

15 to go, Green, Truex looks to the outside of Logano, Jones looks to the inside. They try to split him. Truex takes the lead on the outside.

Trouble! Byron hard into the outside wall on the front straight-away. Byron got loose under Bowyer as the #14 went by on the outside. Byron snapped back to the right. Bowyer went around and Byron made heavy nose first impact with the wall. The impact was enough to lift the rear of the car off the ground. Byron landed on top of Ryan Newman

Kenseth came into the scene on the grass, he slid through the crash and into Bowyer. Harvick slipped by all this on the outside, by inches. The red flag is out.

“That’s the hardest hit I’ve been in. Just glad I’m walking,” William Byron told FS1 after exiting the infield care center.
