Lucas Oil Speedway results from May 24, 2018 featuring the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series

Tonight, it’s the first round of preliminary action in the Show-Me 100 weekend at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO where the population is 371. The premier 3/8-mile dirt track is set to host the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series.

It’s 15 minutes before hot laps are set to begin. Right now, there’s 65 cars in the pit area.

Scott Bloomquist ran a qualifying round. However, the transponder was dead. They gave him a second attempt with a working transponder, Bloomquist to the top of the board in group B qualifying.

Jared Landers was quickest overall with his group A time.

Heat 1 – Report

Jared Landers and Shannon Babb set row 1 in the first heat race of the night just as light rain drops begin to fall. Green, Landers gets the jump, he leads into turn 1.

Stovall slipped in to take over 2nd. Babb has a run off the high side he nearly clears Stovall down the back. Stovall looks to the inside again. They make contact and Stovall is around. The caution is out.

Green, Landers leads. Tim McCreadie is taking them 3 wide and through the middle. McCreadie is charging to the front!

McCreadie up to the 2nd and coming quick. McCreadie slides him in turn 1. Landers crosses him off turn 4. McCreadie holds the lead off turn 2.

Tim McCreadie wins heat race number one.

Heat 2 – Report

Austin Siebert and the point leader of Jonathan Davenport trail the pace truck in heat race number two. Green, they are even at the line.

Siebert down low in turn 1. Davenport clicks to the high side. Davenport falls to third on corner entry but he’s making it all back on corner exit. Davenport swings to the lead off turn 2!

Davenport checks out early.

Austin Rettig is coming in a hurry! We’re coming to the white.

Final lap, Davenport cuts to the bottom in turn 1. Rettig runs the middle. Rettig has a run off turn 2!

Rettig pulls to his outside down the back. He’s to his number but Davenport doesn’t know he’s there. Davenport shuts the door, Rettig lifts.

Davenport wins heat race number two.

Heat 3 – Report

Kyle Bronson and BJ Robinson will lead them to the start of heat race number three. Green, Bronson gets the jump.

6 to go, Robinson has closed to his rear bumper. Caution, there’s a car around.

Green, Hudson O’Neal is u to 2nd in turn 1. The caution is back out.

Green, Hudson O’Neal and Robinson battle for 2nd. Hudson wins the one and begins the chase for Bronson.

O’Neal is there, he looks to the inside down the front stretch. Kyle Bronson comes down the track, chops him down the front stretch and defends the bottom into turn 1.

Hudson is back on the charge. He looks low for the lead in turn 3 this time. No contact, Hudson slips through.

Hudson O’Neal wins heat race number three.

Heat 4 – Report

Scott Bloomquist and Bobby Pierce trail the pace truck ahead of heat race number four. Green, Bloomquist gets the jump.

He leads on the bottom in turn 1. Pierce tries to make a run on the outside, not enough.

Bloomquist checks out. He wins heat race number four over Pierce by a full straight-away.

Heat 5 – Report

Jimmy Owens and Mike Marlar set the front row in the fifth heat race of the night.    Green, Owens leads them into turn 1.

Owens is gone, he leads Chad Simpson by a straightaway. Owens is the winner in heat race number five.

Heat 6 – Report

Mason Zeigler and Brian Shirley set row one in the final heat race of the night. Green, Zeigler wins the race into turn 1.

Lap 2, the caution is out.

Green, Zeigler drives away once more. He drives away to win the final heat race of the night.

Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series regulars just swept all 6 heat races.

Main Event – Report
Cowboy Classic

The 45 lap main event is up next. We’re racing the rain here tonight. The wind is up and the storm is coming but we’re going green.

Tim McCreadie and Scott Bloomquist will lead them to the start. The top 6 positions are locked in by the LOLMDS regulars. A four wide salute for the crowd and we’re ready.

Green flag, McCreadie gets the jump, he leads into turn 1. He drives hard to the bottom but it doesn’t stick. McCreadie slides up the hill. Bloomquist powers to the lead on the outside.

McCreadie loses several positions, Owens is up to 2nd. Zeigler is 3 wide and charging to the front.

Lap 3, Bobby Pierce jumped the cushion in turn 1. He’s around and the caution is out.

Green, Owens jumps the cushion in turn 1. Zeigler looks for a way by. Owens gathers it up quickly and holds the position into turn 3.

Lap 10, Bloomquist leads owens by 10 car lengths. Bloomquist is about to be in heavy lap traffic as he catch the tail of the field.

As Bloomquist works around the lap cars, Owens is closing. Bloomquist and Owens both drop to the bottom. Each of them were running the top.

Lap 20, Bloomquist splits Pierce and Bronson in turn 1. Owens runs the bottom and closes to his rear bumper on the the exit.

The leaders race through lap traffic. Owens is all over the back bumper of Bloomquist into turn 3

Lap 25, Davenport is around in turn 2. The caution is out.

Green, Hudson O’Neal takes over the runner up spot on the bottom into turn 1. Owens slots in behind him. Bloomquist leads by 15 car lengths after two laps as they battle for 2nd.

Lap 38, Payton Looney is slow off turn 2. He coasts to a stop down the back and the caution is out. Hudson and Simpson will get another shot.

Green, Simpson is clear of Hudson O’Neal. Simpson pulls to the back bumper of Bloomquist. Simpson looks low for the lead, not enough.

Bloomquist knows he’s there now. Bloomquist cooks turn 1. Simpson looks low off turn 2.

Bloomquist holds the position into turn 3.

Bloomquist maintains the gap of 1 car length. Bloomquist wins the Cowboy Classic at Lucas Oil Speedway!

They’ll rack ’em again tomorrow night. Same track, same series, The Tribute to Don and Billie Gibson will pay another $6,000 to the winner. The Show-Me 100 main event is set for Saturday night and will pay $30,000 to the winner.
