Toyota is rumored to be working on the brand new Toyota Supra for NASCAR in 2019
The Toyota Supra is iconic. From the Fast and the Furious films to the Grand Turismo video games, a certain generation grew up with these cars in focus. Then, they disappeared.
In 2002, production of the A80 Supra was brought to a halt to to a steep decline in sales. Once of the most popular sportscars became absent from America.
Now, it’s not uncommon to see a 1998 Toyota Supra listed for well over $100k. With 100,000 miles, you’re still going to spend over $50,000 for anything that isn’t a project car.
Since 2002, Toyota has joined NASCAR. They joined the sport with the Toyota Camry.
Now, North American stock car racing is transitioning back to sportscars. In 2018, Chevrolet made the jump from the Chevrolet SS to the Chevy Camaro. In 2019, Ford will make the switch from the Ford Fusion to the Ford Mustang.
Now, the Toyota Supra is making a comeback as well. Back in March, Toyota debuted the GR Supra Concept Sportscar at the Geneva Motor Show.
It’s also rumored that Toyota will bring the Toyota Supra to the NASCAR Xfinity Series in 2019. Plans for the 2019 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series are unclear.
All the stars are aligning for the Supra in America. Toyota won their first NASCAR Cup Series championship back in 2015 with Kyle Busch. They won it again in 2017 with Martin Truex Jr.
The Supra is not yet on the showroom floors. Previously in 2017, Toyota brought the 2018 Toyota Camry to the race track a year in advance.
