NASCAR Penalty Report: Pocono Raceway (June 2018)

Kyle Busch has been handed an L1 penalty

NASCAR hit the No. 18 team in the Xfinity Series with an L1-level penalty following last weekend’s action at Pocono Raceway. The No. 18 did not meet height measurements in post-race inspection, violating Sections 20.17.3.2.1.2.a of the NASCAR Rule Book.

Crew chief Eric Phillips was fined $10,000 and suspended for the next NASCAR Xfinity Series championship points event (Saturday’s LTi Printing 250 at Michigan International Speedway). The team was also assessed with the loss of 10 owner points.

Kyle Busch drove the No. 18 Joe Gibbs Racing Toyota to the win at Pocono, his 92nd victory in the Xfinity Series.

There were no penalties announced in the NASCAR Cup Series.

Kyle Busch was the race winner at Pocono Raceway in the NASCAR Xfinity Series event. After winning stage 1, he was handed a pit road speeding penalty at the start of stage 2.

Busch charged into the top 10 at the conclusion of stage 2. He then went on to take the lead in the final stage and take home the trophy.

This infraction was announced after the race on Saturday. However, the official penalty wasn’t announced until late Tuesday afternoon. The penalty mirror’s that of Christopher Bell’s, who failed the same section of the rulebook at Charlotte.

Kyle Busch called this penalty “A joke.”
