Night 1 of the Dirt Late Model Dream rescheduled for Friday

After 71 cars qualified, the rain came at Eldora; The session is set to be restarted with all times reset – Here are the times for the incomplete qualifying session:

Last night the Dirt Late Model Dream was scheduled to get underway at Eldora Speedway. The race is a 3-day show in Rossburg, Oh with nearly $400,000 in payouts.

Cars unloaded and took to the track for hot laps with weather in the area. They nearly made it through hot laps. However, with just 8 cars remaining in qualifying, the session was red flagged due to weather.

With 8 cars left of 79, officials stated that qualifying session would be evaporated as not every car had a chance to turn a lap. When the rain stopped, they had intentions of restarting the session.

You can see the qualifying times below before the rain washed out the session. Mike Marlar had the quickest time so far. Yet to qualifying was Kent Robinson who turned the fastest lap in hot laps.

Thursday night sat under a rain delay for several hours. The delay began around 7:45. The rain continued to fall and the day was eventually called around 10:45.

“Thursday night’s Dirt Late Model Dream racing program has been postponed due to rain.  The Thursday racing program will now be run on Friday afternoon,” stated Eldora Speedway.

A lot of fans were critical of the track for restarting the session instead of packing the track for the 8 remaining cars while the other 71 qualifying times remained. But, it was the right call.

For a lot of these drivers, this is how they make their living. Thursday night is important for setting the tone of your entire weekend. Whether there’s a $100,000 check on the line or a $5,000 check, it needs to be fair to the entire field. Qualifying 8 cars on a completely different race track just for the sake of moving the show along wouldn’t have been the right call.

The difference between 1st and 62nd was less than a second. A few tenths of a second in this qualifying run could through your whole weekend off.

Heavy rains would have drastically changed the track conditions. Depending on how much they prepared it, those 8 cars would have been the 8 fastest or 8 slowest cars in the field. It would have been the equivalent of qualifying 71 cars at Eldora then taking the 8 remaining to a different track.

The scratched raced is set to resume at noon today. Instead of 2 lap qualifying runs, the session has been reduced to a single lap of qualifying for each car. There will be two feature races paying $5,000 each.

Later tonight, they will rack ’em all over again and begin the regularly scheduled Friday night program. Again, twin features, this time they will pay $10,000 to the winner of each.
