Jason Johnson, World of Outlaws driver has died following sprint car crash

Jason Johnson was involved in an incident on Saturday night at Beaver Dam Raceway

Jason Johnson has passed at age 41. The driver from Eunice, La was involved in a World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series crash on Saturday night.

The crash took place at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin . The series announced the loss of the driver on Sunday morning.

World of Outlaws: “With heavy hearts, we inform you of the passing of Jason Johnson. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. Please send prayers and respect their privacy,” the World of Outlaws stated.

Jason Johnson Racing: “We are heartbroken and saddened to tell you that we have lost our leader, friend, family member and our hero,” Jason Johnson Racing stated via their twitter page.

Beaver Dam Raceway: “Everyone at SLS Promotions offers our deepest, most sincere thoughts, prayers and condolences to Bobbi Johnson, Jaxx Johnson and the entire Johnson family and JJR Racing team,” the promoters of the race said in a statement.

“Jason was a great competitor and true ambassador for the sport. It was an honor and a privilege to work with him during his time on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series trail. Jason will never be forgotten,” SLS concluded.

Johnson crashed on lap 18 following a restart in the event. He was in a battle for the lead with Daryn Pittman.

Johnson climbed the wall in turn 3. He then went through a billboard.

The driver was airlifted to Aurora Summit Hospital which is 40 miles from the Wisconsin speedway.

According to a statement released by the family, Johnson made it to the hospital. However, the driver later succumbed to injuries.

Jason Johnson was the 2015 Rookie of the Year on the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Cars circuit. He was also crowned the winner of the 2016 Knoxville Nationals at Knoxville Raceway at the Iowa dirt track.
